The largest Eid congregation (Jamaat) of the country in Kishoreganj’s Sholakia will not take place this Eid-ul-Fitr due to the coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak, similar to the fate of all other Eid congregations across the country.
Despite having Eid prayers at Eidgah(s) or open grounds as one of the main components of celebrating Eid for Muslims, this year’s prayers would
be arranged only at mosques.
Confirming, Kishoreganj Deputy Commissioner (DC) Md Sarwar Morshed Chowdhury said following the notice no 184 of the Religious Affairs Ministry, there will be no congregation on open grounds this year.
Thousands of Muslims take part in the congregations of Sholakia Eidgah Maidan every Eid, which could not be held this year for ensuring the health security of the devotees, the DC further said.
Several congregations will be held from 8am at mosques on the Eid day and a meeting will be arranged to discuss the hygiene procedures needed to be maintained by mosque authorities, added DC Md Sarwar.
