No dialogue with political parties before elections: EC

The Election Commission (EC) Secretary said, the EC will not hold any dialogue with political parties before the 11th national election.
“The Commission is not hosting any political party for talks before the polls,” Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed told reporters, after a meeting with the Election Commissioners at the Commission’s head office at Agargoan, presided over by Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda.
He said, the schedule for the 11th national election will be announced in the last week of October or in the first week of November, and the polls will be held by the end of December or early January.
Traditions suggest that the Election Commission had discussions with political parties and stakeholders on a number of occasions to seek advice and recommendation.
He said also, according to the Constitution, Parliament election will be held within the last 90 days of its tenure. The first session of the current Parliament started on January 29, 2014.
 He said 80 per cents of preparations have already been completed.
The Commission official said the EC will hold a separate meeting about the preparation for election. It will discuss issue like preparation of voters’ list, selection of polling stations, and purchase of election materials like ink, ballot box, papers.
