UNB, Dhaka :
Criticising a section of intellectuals, Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed on Thursday said the country which compromises with terrorism does not survive and there will be no dialogue with terrorists.
“Dialogue is usually held with those who talk about politics. Even the United States didn’t hold dialogue with terrorists’ organisations ISIS and Al Qaeda. If any country compromises with terrorism that country
doesn’t survive … if so an (negative) example is set that encourages others,” he said.
The Commerce Minister made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a business seminar titled ‘Possible Implication of EU-India FTA and EU-Vietnam FTA on Bangladesh’s Exports’ at the BGMEA Bhaban in the city. BGMEA and Bangladesh Foreign Trade Institute (BFTI) jointly hosted the seminar.
State Minister for Foreign Affairs M Shahriar Alam, Policy Research Institute Executive Director Dr Ahsan H Mansur, Senior Research Fellow of Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies (BIDS) Dr Nazneen Ahmed, among others, spoke on the occasion with President of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) M Atiqul Islam in the chair.
Tofail said, a section of intellectuals and ‘frustrated people’ are trying to keep them in the same line with the terrorists, anarchists and who are carrying out militant activities in the country.
Ruling out dialogue with terrorists, he said some are apparently instigating the terrorists and militant activities in the name of calling for dialogue.
If people remain united, Tofail said, there will be no terrorism in the country. “No one will be able to hold back the pace of Bangladesh’ s advancement… Bangladesh will march forward.”
