Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu on Tuesday said there will be no compromise over relocation of Hazaribagh tanneries to Savar tannery estate.
“We’ve not compromised over tannery relocation and will not do as well. We’ll shift tanneries at any cost,” he said while joining the discussion on thanksgiving motion on the President’s speech in Parliament.
The minister said the government is going to take an initiative to generate electricity from solid wastage of Savar tanneries.
Turning to medicine export, he said Bangladesh exports drugs to 123 countries across the world. Bangladesh is now constructing a pharmaceuticals park in Munshiganj, he added.
Noting that implementation of a project taken to produce main raw materials of medicines is near to be completed, Amu said when the project is completed, it will not require import of main raw materials of medicines.
Taking part in the discussion, Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed said Grameen Bank or Brac Bank could not reduce poverty in the country. “If so, why there was Monga (seasonal and localized famine) in the north Bengal?
“It is Bangabandhu’s daughter who reduced poverty in the country. It is not micro-credit rather micro-savings introduced by Sheikh Hasina that can reduce poverty,” he said. Tofail lambasted the USA for talking about trade union rights in Bangladesh. “Though there is no trade union facility in the USA, it wants trade union in our country,” he added.
Water Resources Minister Barrister Anisul Islam Mahmud said the next parliamentary elections will have to be held in line with the Constitution.
“If election schedule is announced once, it should not be changed. There is Constitutional provision saying that whichever government will be in power, the election will be held under them. We have to say it unequivocally so that no confusion will remain over the election-time government,” he said.
The Jatiya Party leader said it is unacceptable that anyone thinks that the election will not be held without them. “It is violation of the Constitution,” he added.
