General Secretary of Awami League Obaidul Quader on Monday said, there is no chance of accepting any of the demands placed by Jatiya Oikya Front.
“There is no scope for accepting any of the unconstitutional demands and it is not possible to amend the Constitution now,” he said.
Obaidul Quader said this while talking to the media after a programme on National Road Safety Day at Krishibid Institute in the capital. “Oikyafront’s demand for dialogue just days ahead of the announcement of polls schedule is “illogical, unrealistic and unnecessary,” he said.
“There is no need of a dialogue. There is no such situation in the country that demands a dialogue. Now the situation is calm and peaceful,” he said.
The Oikya Front recently placed seven-point demands to the government.
The first demand is resignation of the government, dissolution of Parliament and formation of a polls-time government after consulting all political parties and releasing all political prisoners, including former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia from jail to ensure a free, fair and credible National Election.
The party also demanded reconstitution of Election Commission with the acceptable persons and cancellation of the decision of using Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) in polls.
The demands relate to the right to hold rallies and processions and level playing field for all political parties, releasing quota reformists and safe road protesters and scrapping Digital Security Act.
Other points are: Army deployment with magistracy power 10 days ahead of the election until the formation of the new government, ensuring presence of local and international observers during polls and put an end to filing cases against opposition leaders and activists after announcement of the election schedule.
