Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Mohammad Asaduzzaman Miah assured the pro-BNP lawyers that police will not arrest the party leaders without specific reason.
“Police will not also arrest any BNP leader under section 54.”
The DMP boss disclosed it while he was speaking with the Pro-BNP lawyers led by
Mahbubuddin Khokon at his office in the capital on Saturday afternoon.
Police have also committed not to arrest any BNP leader who is on the way to secure bail from court or from the jail gates, the DMP commissioner said.
“Police assured them that the law enforcers would have ensure equal facilities in polls,” said Sanaullah Miah, a lawyer of team.
Meanwhile, 53 BNP-backed general councillor candidates of Dhaka South and North city corporations’ elections are facing more than 350 criminal cases, while only seven Awami League-blessed contestants face 12 cases as per the affidavits submitted to the Election Commission by the candidates.
