The High Court on Sunday cleared the way to continue graft case filed against former BNP lawmaker Hafiz Ibrahim over misappropriating relief items including corrugated tin.
The HC bench of Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice K M Hafizul Alam passed the order rejecting review petition filed by Hafizul challenging the legality of the case.
The HC also ordered to dispute the case within next six months. Lawyer Md Khurshid Alam Khan stood for
Anti-Corruption Commission while deputy attorney general A K M Amin Uddin Manik for the state and barrister A M Mahabub Uddin Khokon for the accused.
Earlier on November 8, the hearing was completed on a rule and fixed Sunday to pass the order.
On October 1, 2013, the HC stayed the case proceeding issuing a rule asking why this part of the case will not be declared cancelled.
On June 13, 2007, a joint team of Bhola Naval-Contingent and police recovered 100 bundle tins from Hafiz Uddin Ibrahim College in Moniram Bazar of Tobogi union in Burhanuddin upazila of Barishal district.
The case was filed with Burhan Uddin Police Station against founder of the college Hafiz Uddin and its principle S M Gojnabi.
Later on January 18, 2009, ACC director Rammohon Nath submitted charge-sheet against them.
Now, the case is in under trial in Barishal court.
