The hearing on the petition of the anticipatory bail for the Sayem Sobhan Anvir, Managing Director (MD) of Bashundhara Group, in a case lodged for allegedly inciting a female college student named Mosarat Jahan Muniya to commit suicide, is not being heard in the High Court.
The anticipatory bail hearing will remain “closed until further orders”, the court sources said.
The High Court bench of Justice Mamnoon Rahman and Justice Khandaker Diliruzzaman was scheduled to hear the bail petition on Thursday. At the beginning of the court, Justice Mamnoon Rahman said, “We will not hear anticipatory bail amid the ongoing lockdown due to Covid-19.”
Criminal law expert Justice (retd) Mansurul Haque Chowdhury, former law minister Barrister Shafiq Ahmed and senior lawyer AFM Mezbah Uddin were scheduled to appear in court on behalf of the accused Sayem Sobhan Anvir.
On April 27, the court had imposed a travel ban on Bashundhara Group’s MD Sayem Sobhan Anvir in a case filed for inciting Mosarat Jahan Muniya to commit suicide, however, he went abroad before this order issued.
Earlier, victim Mosarat Jahan Muniya’s sister filed the case with Gulshan Police Station against Anvir.
Police recovered the body of Muniya hanging from the ceiling fan at her rented flat at Road-120 in Gulshan-2 on April 26.
