The Appealed Division of the Supreme Court (SC) on Monday rejected the writ petition against an HC verdict upholding the decision of the Dhaka University (DU) authorities not to allow students to sit for the its admission test for the second time. A four-member bench of the Appellate Division, headed by Chief Justice SK Sinha, passed the order after a hearing on the writ petition filed by 26 guardians against the High Court (HC) order dismissing their writ challenging the decision of the Dhaka University (DU) authorities. Advocate Subrato Chowdhury stood for the 26 guardians during the hearing while Advocate ASM Mejbah Uddin for the DU authorise. As per the order, the students who have passed HSC examinations will not get the second chance to appear at the DU admission test, Advocate ASM Mejbah Uddin, lawyer of DU, told reporters after the hearing. Earlier on July 8, an HC bench comprising Justice Farah Mahbub and Justice Kazi M Ejarul rejected the writ petition against the decision of the DU authorities. Earlier on October 14, 2014, the DU authorities decided to allow only fresh successful HSC examinees to appear at its admission tests in a single year from the 2015-16 academic session, aiming to create an equal opportunity for all the aspirants.
