Independent lawmaker from Faridpur-4 Constituency Mujibur Rahman Chowdhury, better known as Nixon Chowdhury, on Sunday sought anticipatory bail from the High Court in a case filed on charge of violating the election code of conduct during the Charbhadrasan Upazila Parishad by-election.
Nixon Chowdhury filed a petition with the HC seeking anticipatory bail in the case filed by the Election Commission, M Monjur Alam, a lawyer for Nixon.
He said that the HC bench of Justice Sheikh Md Zakir Hossain and Justice KM Zahid Sarwar might hear the bail petition.
The lawyer refused to say the grounds on which his client prayed for anticipatory bail. Lawyer Dr Shahdeen Malik will appear for Nixon Chowdhury.
The Election Commission filed the case with Charbhadrasan Police Station on October 15 against Nixon Chowdhury for violating the election code of conduct during the Charbhadrasan Upazila Parishad by-elections.
