Nayapaltan clash: Nipun Roy, six others put on 5-day remand

A court here on Friday placed BNP National Executive Committee member Nipun Roy Chowdhury and six other party men on a five-day remand in a case filed over Wednesday’s clash between BNP men and police.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Satyabrata Sikder granted the remand when Inspector of Detective Branch of police
Md Quamrul Islam, also investigation officer of the case, sought a 10-day remand for them.
As Nipun Roy’s lawyer filed a bail petition, the judge rejected it.
Earlier on Thursday evening, detectives picked Nipun Roy, also daughter of BNP Vice-chairman Advocate Nitai Roy Chowdhury, up along with noted singer Baby Nazneen from the city’s Kakrail area.
However, Baby Nazneen was freed later.
At least 50 people, including 23 policemen, were injured in a clash between BNP leaders and activists and law enforcers in front of the party’s Nayapaltan central office on the third day of its nomination form sale on Wednesday.
