Nigar Sultana to lead BD Women’s team in World Cup qualifiers

Wicket-keeper Nigar Sultana will lead Bangladesh in the upcoming ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifier 2021, the Bangladesh Cricket Board announced on Thursday.
Nigar replaces Rumana Ahmed as the ODI’s skipper of the Women’s team, who last played an ODI series against Pakistan in 2019.
As preparation for the tournament, Bangladesh are scheduled to play a three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo between November 10 and 15.
Murshida Khatun, Nuzhat Tasnia, Mst Ritu Moni, Nahida Akter, Fahima Khatun, Fariha Islam Trisna, Sobhana Mostary have been included in the squad while Ayesha Rahman, Panna Ghosh, Ekka Mollik, Sharmin Sultana failed to retain their place from the squad that toured Pakistan.
Bangladesh are placed in Group B in the qualifiers, alongside Pakistan, Thailand, Zimbabwe and the USA. The top three teams from each group will play in the Super Six stage that will decide the final positions at the end of 29 matches.The top three teams after the end of the Super Six stage will qualify for the ICC Women’s World Cup 2022 scheduled to be held in New Zealand from March 4 to April 3 next year.
