UNB, Dhaka :
Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Dr Mizanur Rahman on Saturday questioned the role of law enforcers as the killing of bloggers are going on one after another.
“The bloggers are getting killed one after another as the law enforcers are still asleep, it’s not yet stopped … the murder of free thinkers has not stopped for lack of effective actions,” he said. He came up with the concern at the launching of a book, titled ‘Muktijuddho Sotter Mukhomukhi’ written by Prof Dr Abu Sayeed, at the Jatiya Press Club.
“How long the law enforcers will keep on sleeping?” the NHRC chairman told the programme. Noting that ensuring the safety of citizens is the duty of the government, he said the law enforcers should perform their duty properly so that the citizens can live the life safely.
Mentioning that the cruel murder of Rajon in Sylhet, he said police insulted Rajon’s father by throwing him out of the police station as he went there to file a case regarding his son’s murder. The people of the country do not ever expect such behaviour from the police, he further added. Chaired by Prof Dr Abu Sayeed, the book launching programme was also attended by Prof Emeritus of Dhaka University Dr Anisuzzaman and columnist Syed Abul Moksud.
