NHA to build 533 flats at Mirpur for lower income slum dwellers : Minister

Housing and Public Works Minister SM Rezaul Karim today said the National Housing Authority (NHA) under the Ministry of Housing and Public Works has taken a rent basis 533 residential flat construction project for the slum dwellers at Mirpur.
“As per the declaration by the Prime Minister that nobody will be remained homeless by ensuring housing for all.. the NHA with its own financial assistance has taken the project of housing for the lower income people at Mirpur section-11, ” said the minister while responding a starred question placed by treasury bench lawmaker Mahfuzur Rahman of Chattagram-3 in the House with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhruy in the chair.
On October 26 in 2017, he said the Prime Minister has laid the foundation stone of the project,saying that the implementation of the project is now underway.
As per the latest approved DPP, the minister said the project will complete by December 2020.
In addition to this, Karim told the JS that implementation of a project for development housing is now underway at three municipality/ city corporation area in Cumilla, Sirajganj and Narayanganj for the lower income people by the NHA with its own assistance.
With the assistance of the World Bank, he said a total of 5,700 unit housing will be constructed under the project, adding that the project will complete by March 31 in 2020.
Besides, approval of more flat construction project is now under process where rental basis more 10,530 flats for slum dwellers and lower income people under two separate project at Mirpur in Dhaka and 2,688 residential flats will be constructed at Bakulia in Chattagram.
Necessary steps will be taken for cost-effective flat and plot allotment amonghomeless people of the all the districts in phase, the minister added.
