NGOs’ proper coordination stressed to achieve SDGs

Speakers on Thursday said that lack of coordination of various projects run by Non-Government Organizations (NGOs) is failing to contribute properly to achieve sustainable development goals ( SDGs).
They said many NGOs start projects for the sake of projects and these organizations don’t stay with people when the projects are over. Such initiatives cannot help contribute to achieve development goals by 2030.
They said those at the 30th founding anniversary of SKS Foundation at SKS Inn of the Radhakrisnapur village of Bharatkhali union under Gaibandha District on Thursday, said a press release.
Deputy speaker of the Parliament Advocate Fazle Rabbi Mia, MP inaugurated the programme while Foundation chairperson Ayub Ali chaired the programme.
Among others, whip of the Parliament Mahabub Ara Begum Gini, MP, chairman of the Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF) Dr. Qazi Kholiquzzaman Ahmad, were present as special guest. Deputy Commissioner of Gaibandha Goutam Chandra Pal, Superintendent of Police Mashrukur Rahman Khaled, country director of Action Aid Farah Kabir, were present on the occasion.
Fazle Rabbi Mia said, “We can achieve the SDG goals by 2030 ,if NGOs like SKS Foundation continue their efforts for social development. SDG goals cannot be achieved keeping the disadvantaged segment people behind. We have to bring the people to the mainstream.”
“Government alone cannot do all things. The assistance of NGOs, philanthropists, intellectuals and professionals are necessary here,” deputy speaker who is also the founder chairman of SKS Foundation.
Wishing success of SKS, Fazle Rabbi urged SKS to set up a medical college in Gaibandha instead of Rangpur.
Mahabub Ara Begum GinI said the way SKS Foundation is working will help the disadvantaged group of this region. She also urged SKF to set up a medical college here in Gaibandha to ensure medical service for poor people.
Kholiquzzaman Ahmad said, “People have multidimensional needs. Only some money cannot change their lives. They need education, health care, social capital, development of technology. So it needs coordination.”
He said, “NGOs should not take project for the sake of project.
Some NGOs take project for two or three years. When the project is over, the target people are lost because the NGOs don’t stand beside them. NGO’s have to take programmes for people as long as necessary.”
He also said SKF is moving forward geometrically over the last couple of years as it is giving importance to education, women empowerment, resistance of child marriage and child rights as well as climate change.
He also promised to bring one union of Gaibandha Sadar under PKSF project ‘Sambridhi’ under the supervision of SKF.
Chief Executive of SKS Foundation Rasel Ahmed Liton said the organisaiton has been relentlessly working to achieve sector wise progress to eliminate poverty and obtain socio-economic development since its foundation.
“SKS foundation has undertaken its work plan considering the current global and national perspective. As part of its plan, the foundation has set up SKS hospital, SKS Inn, SKS School and College, Community Radio ‘Sarabela 98.8’,” he said.
The Foundation is committed to assist the government by exercising its organisational skill and experience for the achievement of SEGa, he said.
Chairperson of SKS Foundation Ayub Ali said, “Our commitment was to make the underprivileged poor segment of the society solvent economically after changing their overall condition. SKS Foundation is working for the development of the poor and marginalised people.”
On the occasion of the anniversary, SKS Foundation to various day-long programmes including sharing experiences, talk show on radio Sarabela followed by cake festival.
SKS Foundation is engaged in service delivery and rights based activities for disadvantaged hardcore poor people and char dwellers for their quality life and livelihoods since 1987 through various programmes.
Currently it has development programmes in 20 districts under Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka and Khulan division where around 30 lakh people are engaged. The Foundation has already successfully completed its over 70 development projects from Char lands to towns.
