Narayanganj school teacher Shyamal Kanti Bhakta, who was publicly humiliated last year, has been sent to jail on charges of bribery.
On Wednesday morning, a Narayanganj court issued an arrest warrant for him after taking into account the charges brought against him by a colleague.
Bhakta, the headmaster of Piyar Sattar Latif High School, stands accused of taking bribe in a case filed by a teacher of the same school.
Plaintiff Morsheda Begum accused Bhakta of taking Tk 135,000 as bribe promising to include her as an employee in the government’s monthly payment order or MPO scheme.
Hours after the order was out, Bhakta surrendered to the court and pleaded for bail. The court sent him to jail, rejecting his plea.
In May 2016, Bhakta was assaulted by a mob and made to squat up and down holding his ears in the presence of the local MP over an allegation that he had criticised Islam.
