2,200 metre current nets seized

A mobile court seized 2,200 metres of current nets, used illegally in fishing, worth around Tk 5.85 lakh from the Mahananda River at Charmohonpur in Sadar upazila on Friday. District Fisheries Officer Samsul Alam said a mobile court led by executive magistrate Rafiqul Islam conducted a drive in the area at about 11:30am. They recovered 2,200 meters of current nets in an abandoned condition from the spot. None was arrested in this connection.
Student awarded imprisonment for 6 months

A mobile court headed by Md. Nazmul Huda, in-charge of Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Morrelganj in Bagerhat district convicted Rasel Khalifa (20), a debauched student of XI Class of Morrelganj S M Degree college and son of one late Abdur Rahim Khalifa of village Bhasandal under the Upazila and sentenced him to suffer simple imprisonment for six months on the charge of committing an eve teasing with a girl student of the local Setara Abbas Technical College on Thursday. The prosecution story, in short, is that on the day at 9 am while the victim girl student was going to her college along with some other girls debauched Rasel Khalifa committed an eve teasing with the victim girl student on the road and snatched away her modesty scarf locally known as Orna forcibly.
Indian school girl recovered from remote village

Bangladesh Women Lawyers Association with the help of Rapid Action Battalion Unit-8 recovered an Indian school girl from remote Kalbila village under Harta union under Wazirpur upazila of Barisal on Friday afternoon. The recovered school girl was a student of class ten at Rangabalia School in Gosaba of South 24-pargana under Poshchim Banga of India. She was recovered from the house of Manindra Mallik of Kalbila village and becoming aware about presence of law enforcers alleged abductor Swapan Mallik, son of Manindra Mallik, managed to flee from the area. After recovery the 16-year old girl Boishakhi Kandar, daughter of Tarun Kandar, claimed that Swapan was working as a colour-painter in their house and both falling in love and got married.
Terrorism, militancy protested

Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) Leading University unit, formed a human chain in front of LU Rongmohol campus hear on Thursday against terrorism and militancy. BCL Sylhet city unit president Abdul Basit Rumman spoke as the chief guest at the human chain presided over by BCL LU unit President Safkat Hasan. The speakers said the militants were traitors and were standing against the country’s development. In addition, BCL Sylhet city unit secretary Abdul Alim Tusar spoke as the Chief speaker of the human chain. Among others, by BCL Sylhet city unit Organising secretary Sojol Das Anik, LU unit leader Rofi, Masuk, Sahi, Maruf, Noyn, Tareq, Sultan Tanvir and other leaders attended at the human chain moderated by Zakir Hossain Maher.
Two drug peddlers held in Jhenaidah

Police in Sailkupa in Jhenaidah arrested two drug peddlers with 54 pieces of yaba tablet in separate drives yesterday. The arrestees were Saiful Islam, sosn of late Shahadat Hossain of Bazerpara area and Saddam Munshi, sosn of Akbar Munshi of Bijulia village under Sailkupa upazila. THe police said, they arrested Saiful with 49 pieces of the contra banned tablet from Katlagari in same upazila, while Saddam was arrested with five pieces of the item from Malipara in Sailkupa municipality area.
Sailkupa police sub inspector Razib said, filing of case under narcotics control act was under process.
