Discussion on Legal Aid Day held in Narsingdi

A discussion meeting marking the National legal Aid Day organised by District Legal Aid Committee was held at local Shilpakala Academy on Monday. With the chair of District and Session Judge Mohammad Shafiqul Karim, the discussion was addressed among others by joint District and Session Judge Iman Ali. District Magistrate Narsingdi Obaidul Azam, Administrator, Zilla Parishad Advocate Asaduzzaman, chief judicial Magistrate Nitai Chandra, Police Super Dr. Khanaker Mohid uddin, Executive Engineer PWD Halal uddin, Justice of Nari, Shishu repression tribunal. Begum Shamim Ahmed and president of District layer Association Amjad Hossain. Speakers said the Government has decided to provide more fund of its national legal aid programme for ensuring justice to the poor and distressed people. Under the programme the Government gives legal aid support to the poor, distressed and disadvantaged population of the country free of cost.
Boro harvest begins in Chhatok

The farmers of Chhatok upazila have started harvesting boro paddy this year as the rice has grown matured. Farmers and crop specialists of the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) are expecting a bumper production of Boro paddy after observing good yielding rate of the crop in many areas of the district. The DAE sources said a total of 11,920 hectares of land were brought under Boro cultivation in upazilas of the district against the production target of 42,305 tonnes of rice. The DAE is expecting that the production target would be exceeded due to favorable weather condition and financial and logistic supports extended by the government. The deputy director of the DAE, said that different state-run agencies including BADC, DAE and BCIC took necessary steps for ensuring proper supply of improved quality Boro seeds, seedlings, fertilizers, irrigation and agricultural equipment to the door-steps of the cultivators.
Hailstorm damages crops in Sylhet
Hailstorm damaged standing crops in 12 upazilas of Sylhet district and city on Sunday night.Sources said rains and hailstorm which started at about 12.40pm continued for 20 minutes and damaged many kutcha houses, trees, vegetable gardens and standing crops. Crops on around 29,000 acres of land suffered damage seriously.
Jamaat Ameer arrested in Baufal

Police arrested Isahuq Mia, upazila Amir (president) of Jamaat- e- Islami Bangladesh and teacher of Salehia Fazil Madrasa at Baufal upazila town, calling from his class room at about 1:00 pm on Tuesday. Besides, police also arrested Jamaat activist Palash Molla, 26, from Hospital Road area of the upazila town at about 12:30 pm while he was engaged in distributing JIB membership forms. He was son of Abdul Hakim Mia of Raghual-Garichar village under Kathalia upazila of Jhalakathi. Naresh Chandra Karmakar, Baufal police station officer in charge, said JIB Amir Isahuq was wanted accused of a case and activist Palash was arrested as suspected person engaged in conspiracy for subversive acts.
Female school teacher killed in road accident

A female school teacher crushed under wheels on Barisal-Patuakhali road on Tuesday afternoon. The victim was identified as Shahana Aktar Shima, 40, mother of two children, wife of Nazrul Islam from Mallik Doba village and assistant teacher of Keshabpur girl’s junior school under Baufal upazila of Patuakhali. Police and hospital sources said the female teacher was coming from Baufal to Barisal Education Board for official work on a rented motorcycle. When the motorcycle collided with a bus near Abdur Rob Serniabad Bridge at Dapdapia area on Barisal-Patuakhali road at about 2:00 pm, Shahana injured severely. She brought to Barisal Sher E Bangla Medical College Hospital in critical condition by local people.
