Convicted prisoner dies in C’nawabganj

A convicted prisoner, who had been serving two months’ jail in a drug case handed down by a mobile court on May 25, died at Chapainawabganj Sadar Hospital on Saturday. The deceased was identified as Abdul Barik,65, a resident of Alinagar of the upazila. Shah Alam, jail superintendent, said Barik was admitted to the hospital after he had complained of chest pain in the afternoon. Later, he died at the hospital 6:00pm.
Construction works of 14 bridges progressing fast in Sadullapur
GAIBANDHA: The construction works of 14 bridges at 4 unions of Sadullapur Upazila in the district has been progressing fast for few months last aimed at promoting the road communication system in rural areas. Upazila project implementation office under the Ministry of Relief and Disaster Management is implementing the work involving Tk 3.57 crore under the direct supervision of the upazila administration, office sources said. The bridges are being built over different canals and water bodies at Naldanga, Damodorpur, Jamalpur and Bongram Unions of the upazila. Average 90 per cent work had already been completed and the rest work would be finished by June 30, it was expected, said Atwar Rahman, sub assistant engineer of the office. Moniruzzaman Monir, upazila project implementation officer, said with the completion of the construction work of the bridges the water stagnant would be removed side by side with upgrading the road communication system at rural areas. Earlier, acting UNO Abu Raihan Dolon formally inaugurated the construction work of the bridges through laying down the foundation stone and unveiling the plaque in April as the chief guest, reports BSS.
Nazrul’s ‘Badol Borishone’ staged in Mymensingh
 MYMENSINGH : “Badol Borishone”, a play based on the short story of Kazi Nazrul Islam, the national poet of Bnagladesh was staged at Mymensingh town’s Advocate Tareq Smriti auditorium on Friday evening. The artistes of Theatre and Performance Studies Department of Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University (JKNIU) here staged the play and it was the second staging of the play. Adapted and directed by Nusrat Jahan Shimu, a student of the department, the play depicted the still present social structure where the likings and dislikings of the young minds do not matter at all. Nazrul in his short story skillfully depicted the beauty of inner mind of both men and women,much necessary to establish a peaceful society, said Nusrat Jahan. The cast of the play were Yusuf Monsur, Sumaiya Hashmi Era, Bipasha Saha, Didarul Haque Panna,Papiya Singh, Sajal Kumar Bhowmik and others. The play was assisted by Amol Krishna Sheel Sharma, Rafiqul Islam Bipul, Md Al Amin, Mithun Chakma, Mohitush Kanti Roy, Kazi Rafia Sayeed, Bilkis Mir and Sanjida Kabir Nowrin as background artistes. Earlier, a discussion was held. Shahadat Hossain Khan Hilu, secretary of Bahurupi Natya Sangstha, Syed Mamun Reza, head of Theatre and Performance Studies Department at JKKNIU; Dr Horisankar Das, Nusrat Sharmin and Dr HA Golandaj Tara spoke on the occasion, among others, reports BSS.
Drug peddler arrested in Meherpur
MEHERPUR: District Detective Branch Police conducted raid at Chatian village under Gangni upazila of the district this morning and arrested a drug peddler Mazharu Islam Ratan. During the raid police recovered 169 bottles of phensydil from his possession. Mazharul Islam Ratan son of Asaluddin Mollah hails from Chatian village under Gangni upazila of the district. Officer- in- Charge of Gangni Thana Akram Hossain said a case was filed against Mazharul Islam Ratan in this connection, reports BSS.
