BFUJ demands 9th Wage Board

 Leaders of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) here yesterday s demanded immediate formation of ninth wage board for the journalists and press employees soon otherwise it will stage a tougher movement.
It also demanded stoppage of killing, repression and oppression on journalists and called for trial of all journalist killings along with Sagor-Runi. The demands came from a human chain programme at Shaheed Kamaruzzaman Crossing in the city before holding a meeting of the executive committee of BFUJ at Hotel Dalas International in Rajshahi.
The members of the committee participated at the meeting jointly organised by Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) and Rajshahi Union of Journalists (RUJ).
The meeting also demanded that the government would declare dearness allowances for the journalists and employees soon and to take initiatives to implement it.
RUJ President Kazi Shahed Ahmed presided over the meeting, conducted by its General Secretary Mamun-Ur- Rashid.
BFUJ Secretary General Omar Faruk, Former BFUJ President Monjurul Ahsan Bulbul, Treasurer Modhusudon Mondal, President of Dhaka Union of Journalists Shaban Mahmud and President of Chittagong Union of Journalists Riaz Haider Chowdhury, among others, addressed the programme.

Mixed reaction on budget in Barisal

Announced proposed national budget for 2016-17 fiscal created mixed reaction in Barisal, as proposed budget will ‘widen rich-poor gap’. Saidur Rahman Rintu, President , Barisal Chamber and Commerce and Industries and Awami League leader welcoming the announced budget said it is a farmers-friendly budget. He hoped that the budget will focus on development of disaster-porn Barisal region. On the other hand, Bijoy Krishna Dey, President , Bangladesh Bidi Industry Owners’ Association and also owner of Karikor Bidi factory said proposed budget will push 22 lakh bidi workers to take place on the street. He said there is no scope to welcome the budget as it is a highly ambitious one. Prof. Jyotirmoy Biswas of Barisal University Economics Department said the proposed budget may affect collection of revenue and money inflation will be increased. Government will face difficulties in implementing the proposed budget due to payment of salaries under new pay scale, he said.  

SCC fixes red meat prices ahead of Ramzan

The Sylhet City Corporation (SCC) on Thursday fixed the maximum price of per kg beef at Tk 400 and buffalo meat at Tk 400 ahead of holy Ramadan. The SCC authorities also fixed the prices of mutton at Tk 500 per kg and lamb at Tk 450. SSC Chief excutive Anamul Habib made the decision at a views-exchange meeting with meat traders.
The SSC Chief excutive said that the newly fixed prices would remain in effect from the 1st Ramadan to 26th RamadanHe urged the meat traders to maintain the standard of the red meat.

Doa mahfil for AL leader held

FARIDPUR :A doa mahfil for eternal peace of the departed soul of Awami League leader Forkan Ahmed Khan was held yesterday after Juma prayers at local Ambica Memorial hall.LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Engineer Khondoker Mosharraf Hossain attended the doa mahfil.
 A large number of people of this town also attended it.Late Forkan Khan, senior vice-president of Faridpur Chamber of Commerce and Industries died on May 31 at a private hospital in the capital, reports BSS.
