Indian army denies mutiny claims

The Indian army on Sunday denied reports of a mutiny by a group of soldiers in the north-eastern region of the country, and spoke of a scuffle in which an officer was injured.
The Hindu described the incident as a case of serious disciplinary breach in the ranks of the army. It said an officer was injured when some jawans got “emotionally” agitated at the death of their colleague during routine training in the Northeast.

US, Japan, ROK plan joint drills on N Korean threat

South Korea, the United States and Japan will hold their first joint military training next month focused on cooperating to detect signs of missile launches from North Korea and trace missile trajectories, a Seoul defense official said today.
The drills set for around June 28 will be held on the sidelines of biennial multinational naval exercises scheduled for waters of Hawaii from June to August, which the three countries regularly attend, the official said requesting anonymity citing department rules.

Sri Lanka floods kill 8

Floods and landslides in Sri Lanka have killed at least eight people, including a 10-month-old baby, and forced tens of thousands more to flee their homes, officials said Monday. The government has deployed troops to evacuate people living on slopes or in flood-hit areas and the navy is helping clear canals in Colombo to stop low-lying areas including the parliament complex from flooding.

China may seek base in Pakistan

China is likely to consider establishing additional naval logistics hubs in countries with which it has a long-standing friendly relationship and similar strategic interests, “such as Pakistan”, according to a Pentagon report.
In its annual report to Congress on “Military and Security Developments in China”, the US Department of Defence claimed that China is looking for countries that have “a precedent for hosting foreign militaries.”
