Properties worth Tk 25 lakh gutted in Morrelganj

 Properties worth Taka more than 25 lakh were gutted when a big fire broke out in Badsharhat, a village market under Morrelganj Upazila in the district on Friday noon. Locals said that at noon suddenly the fire originated from a shop of the market situated on Morrelganj-Sharankhola Highway spread to its adjacent shops within moments due to scorching sun and prevailing drought and went out of control. On seeing the flame of fire the locals rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control after a long fighting for one hour. Being informed of the matter a fire a brigade rushed to the spot from Morrelganj. But before its reach to the place of occurrence the fire extinguished by the local people and the shop keepers. But in spite of that shops belonging to Awal Mridha, Rustam Munshi and Shekhar Chandra Haldar and Awami League ward office of Nishanbaria Union were completely burnt to ashes. Besides, shops belonging to one Yunus Darji and UP member Mostafizur Rahman were partially burnt .
One arrested for acid violence in Pirojpur

Bhandaria police under Pirojpur district on early Friday arrested one person in connection of acid violence and terrorism. Matiur Rahman, Bhandaria police station officer- in -charge, said Champa Begum as complainant lodged a case against seven accused on Thursday night. In that case it was alleged the accused throwing acid on her maternal cousin Laily Begum, 19, daughter of late Abdul Mannan Mia of Dhawa Nalkata area and injuring widow Nanburu Begum, Mojibor Rahman, mother and brother of Laily, on way to Bhandaria upazila health complex on Thursday night. Then police arrested Delwar Hossain, one of the accused in the case. Pakhi Aktar, maternal cousin of Laily Begum, alleged that local terrorist gang led by Mohidul-Masum attacking and injuring Nanboru forcibly ousted her from home and took away her house after breaking to grab the land about 45-day ago. After that widow Nanboru with her daughter and son took shelter at the house of her brother.
Reunion of drug addiction recovery patients held

A reunion of drug addiction recovered and under recovery patients held on Kuakata sea beach of Kalapara upazila in Patuakhali district on Friday for taking oath to leave addition for ever. Barisal Holy Care Drug Addiction Treatment Assistance and Rehabilitation Center organied the two-day programme participated by different organization working in the same field under Bangladesh Drug Addict Rehabilitation Society. The two-day long programme with the slogan ‘no addiction in future, we have to run long way in life ( R nesha noy, Jiboner Akhono Onek Path Baki)’ included exchanging views, experiences, human chain, rally , flying lantern, oath taking ceremony, cultural functions, cleaning sea beach etc. More than one hundred recovered and under recovery patients from different parts of the country attended the programmes. Among others Mustafizur Rahman Sumon, convener, Shafikur Rahman Khokan, member secretary, of the programme arrangement committee, Mahmudul Ansar Lipon, Abul Hasan Babu, Giasuddin, Monir Hossain, Ruman Imtiaz Tushar, Kuakata Press Club president, Motaleb Sharif, president Kuakata Hotel Motel Resort Association, Abdul Barek Molla, former UP chairman, addressed in different sessions of the programme.
Insurance official dies in Jessore

Kamal Hossain, district manager, Central Insurance Co Ltd and also a leader of Bangladesh Nationalist Party, died of massive heart attack on Friday noon. He was 42. Family sources said Kamal Hossain was taken to Abu Naser Specialised Hospital in Khulna massive cardiac arrest in the noon where he was declared dead. He is survived by his mother, one son, two daughters and a host of relatives and well wishers to mourn. He was vice-president, Abhaynagar upazila unit Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal and then publicity secretary of the upazila unit BNP. He was a brilliant student as well as a political leader.
