Journalist Jeeban Bosh passes away

Elderly sports journalists Jeeban Bosh passed away at his Jessore town based residence early Sunday. He was 70. Family sources said they found the elderly journalist dead at his room in the morning. He, earlier, went to bed after having supper. ‘Jeeban Bosh had been suffering from old age complications’, they added. Jeeban Bosh started journalism as a sports reporter in 60s and continued till the date of felling sick due to old age. He was an unmarried man. He was cremated at Nilgonj Crematory on Sunday noon. Jahid Hasan Tukun, president, Jessore Press Club, Tauhidur Rahman, general secretary, Noor Islam, president, Journalists Union of Jessore and M Ayub, general secretary expressed their condolence at the sad demise of the journalist.

The 155th birth anniversary of Bishwakobi Rabindranath Thakur (Rabindra Joyantee) observed in Barisal city on Sunday showing deep respect to the great poet of Bengali language and literature and calling properly exercise the creation and ideals of the poet. Jatiya Rabindra Sangeet Sammilon Parishad, Barisal district administration, Charukala Barisal and other institutions organized day-long programmes at Ashwini Kumar Hall, Planet World children’s park, Charukala art gallery and different places premises. The programmes included presenting songs, poems, dances, dramas, exhibitions on paintings of Tagore, discussion meetings and competitions on creations of the poet, prize giving ceremonies. Dr. Gazi Saifuzzaman, deputy commissioner Barisal, Prof. Ziaul Haque, chairman Barisal Education Board, SM Iqbal, president Barisal Sangskritik Sangathan Samanaya Parishad, Dola Gangopadhaya, Rabindra Sangeet artist of Poshchim Bangla, Advocate Manabendra Batabayal, Nazrul Islam Chunnu, Mir Mujtaba Ali, Mukul Das, Kajal Ghose, Shamima Masud Munni and other cultural, intellectual activists, addressed the programmes.
SCC demolishes another vulnerable bldg

Sylhet City Corporation (SCC) has decided to demolish another building vulnerable to earthquake within this month as part of its decision to knock down such 32 buildings within this year, said SCC officials. SCC Chief Executive Officer Enamul Habib told that . The traders were already asked to evacuate the three-storey City Super Market in Bandarbazar as soon as possible, The experts from the Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (Sust) and SCC jointly marked the 32 buildings as risky and the market building is one of the most vulnerable, the officials said. The other risky buildings include Madhuban Super Market, Raja Mansion, Collectorate Building-3, Samabaya Bhaban, the district women affairs office, Surma Market, Bandarbazar city super market, Zindabazar Rahman market, Mitali Mansion, Sylhet Model School & College, Sylhet Engineering College, technical institute, and the new building of Madan Mohan College.
Shibir man held in Sylhet
Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested an activist of Islami Chhatra Shibir from Shakghat area in the city on Tuesday afternoon. The arrestee was identified as Jihadul Islam, son of Azir Miah, a resident of the city. RAB sources said tipped off, a team of the elite force conducted a drive in the area and arrested Foyjul at about 4:00 pm.
Foyjul was wanted in several cases with Sylhet Kotwali and Airport police stations, the sources said.
