Indian HC distributed scholarships for the successors of FFs

Indian High Commission on behalf of Government of India on Friday distributed student-scholarships among the inheritors of freedom fighters. In the programme scholarships worth Tk.11.04 lakhs were distributed among 46 successors of freedom fighters studying on under graduation level in Barisal region. The scholarship distribution ceremony held at Circuit House of the city was presided over by Sardar Khalid Hossain, AL leader and Babuganj Upazila Chairman.
Adv Talukdar Md. Yunus, district AL secretary and lawmaker, was chief guest of the programme.Bijay Silvaraj, First Secretary (commerce) delivered welcoming speech. Among others , Subir Kushari, general secretary of Bangladesh -India Friendship Society addressed in the programme. High level officials of district and police administration, family members of freedom fighters attended in the scholarship distribution ceremony. The speakers said Bangladesh-India relationship is inseparable in course of history. They hoped that it would be continued to strengthen ties and spread more cooperation in the fields of education, research and culture and studies. Mentionable this year Indian High Commission in Bangladesh distributed scholarships worth Tk. 1.92 core among 800 students in the country.

Youth stabbed in Jessore

A youth was stabbed by some miscreants at Bhaina village under Jessore sadar upazila on Friday noon. The wounded – Ripon Hossain, 32 of Bhaina village was rushed to Jessore Medical College with critical wounds. Akram Hossain, a neighbour of the victim told newsmen that he along with two other villagers witnessed the act of attacking Ripon by noted terrorist Abdul Hakim as they reached there on the way. ‘The attacker fled the scene as we came to the spot’, Akram added, ‘we them took the victim to the hospital.’ lias Hossain, officer in-charge, Kotwali police station confirmed the information to newsmen. Reason of the attack could not be known. No case was made and none was arrested.

Mobile court fines meat shops in Sylhet

A mobile court in Sylhet city Thursday fined 3 meat shops Tk 50,000 for selling substandard meat and for running the trade without the City Corporation’s license. Executive magistrate Md. Sharifuzzaman led the court while veterinary physician Dr. Mahbubul Alam accompanied him. The chain shop Swapnos outlet at the city’s Barutkhana area was fined Tk 20,000 as they failed to show license for selling meat. Besides, there was no test report by the veterinary surgeons. The outlet manager admitted they were being supplied the item from a meat shop in the city’s Bandarbazar area. The mobile court also fined the supplier ‘Bhai Bhai Meat Shop’ at the city’s Bandarbazar area Tk 20,000 for unlicensed trade alongside selling of under-aged goats. Besides, the court fined Tk 10,000 the ‘Bongai Mia Meat Shop’ at the city’s Shibganj bazar on charge of selling sub standard meat. They also seized some underaged goat from the Mohammadi Meat Shop’ at Mirtabazar. The drive would continue on public interest, officials informed.

Four shops gutted in Chandpur

Four shops were gutted by a pre-dawn devastating fire that broke out at Hawkers’ market in Chandpur town on Friday. Being informed, a fire fighter unit extinguished the fire after a frantic effort of three hours with the help of locals. Asia Electronics, Al-Amin Electronics, Sharif Plastic Store and Tanha Cloth Store were worst affected shops of the market. Firefighters and police sources said the fire originated from an electric short-circuit.
