4 Houses were gutted as a fire broke out in Tatly area of the Dakshin Surma in early hours of Saturday. Dakshin Surma Fire Station in-charge said the fire broke out from an electric-short circuit in of the area around 5:00am in Kahir Miah House at Darogabari in Tatly and engulfed four other Houses adjacent to it. On information, three fire-fighting units rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control. The affected House Owner Kahir Miah said that the extent of loss could go up to Tk 10 lakh.
Woman’s body found in Sylhet
An unidentified woman’s body was recovered from Surma River in Gopal Dakaiyaghat area of Sylhet Thursday evening. Akhter Hossain, officer-in-charge of Jalalabad Police Station, said locals recovered the body and sent it to Osmani Medical College Hospital. Quoting doctors, the OC said identity and the cause of death were not found in the autopsy report as the body has decomposed.
Traditional horse race held in Rampal

A traditional horse race was held at Hurka in Rampal on Sunday. It was organised at Balur Math adjacent to Mongla-Ghoshiakhaly Channel . A good number of horses of different areas participated in the race. The horse of Raihan Udddin of Batiaghata, horse of Pritish Mondal of Dumuria Upazilla and horse of Rejaul of Rampal Upazila became first, second and third respectively in the competition. President of the organising committee senior teacher Puspajit Mondal distributed prizes among the winners.
Agri materials distributed
Agricultural materials was distributed among the poor farmers in Rampal recently. At that time farmers are given bag and Spray Machine free. Being presided over by Upazilla Agriculturre Officer Sankar Kumar Majumder , Upazilla Agricultural Extention Officer Hajira Khatun was present there as chief guest. Speaking to many farmers , they told the newsmen that they will get benefit for finding such materials free.
Boro harvesting going on in Narail

Harvesting of Boro paddy has been continuing in full swing in all three upazilas of the district during the current season. Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) office sources said 42,134 hectares of land were brought under Boro cultivation in the district with the production target of 176,387 tonnes of rice this year. Sources said farmers are now busy with harvesting Boro paddy in the areas of sadar, Lohagora and Kalia upazilas. A festive mood has been prevailing there as they are getting better price of the paddy. Deputy Director of DAE Shaikh Aminul Haque however said that they are expecting two lakh tonnes of boro rice after completion of harvesting of the paddy.
4 wounded as train hits truck in Jessore

Four people were wounded as the Benapole bound commuter train hit a truck at Benapole land recently. The wounded are Taqibur Rahman, Al- Amin, Saikat Hossain and Rafiqul Islam. They were rushed to Jessore Medical College Hospital with critical injuries. Apurba Hasan, officer in-charge, Benapole port police station told that two people were wounded as the Benapole Commuter Train hits a truck near Benapole railway station on Wednesday.
The train chased the truck about 200 yards. Witnesses said.
40 Kgs venison recovered from Sharankhola Area

Members of the coastguards of the Western Zone deployed at Mongla recovered 40 kgs venison and a boat from Katlar Khal area of Supati near Sundarban forest under Sharankhola Upazila in Bagerhat district on Sunday at night, according to a report received here. The recovered venison and boat were handed over to Chandeswar forest office for taking necessary action.
Lt. Fariduzzaman, Operation Officer of the Coastguards of the Western Zone told, acting on a secret information the members of the coastguards raided Chander Khal area and recovered the venison and the boat. But the choppers of deer, some hoe, managed to escape. He added, the coastguards are always ready to discharge their duties in the sea and Sundarban forest with a view to protect the fishermen and the forest resources including the wild animals.
