Mosul will be retaken from IS: Obama

US President Barack Obama said he expects Iraq’s second city Mosul to be retaken from the Islamic State group “eventually”.
Obama’s comments in an interview with CBS News on Monday came on the same day that Defense Secretary Ashton Carter said Washington would send Apache attack helicopters and more troops to Iraq.

Experts examine new debris for MH370 clues

Investigators were on Tuesday examining two more pieces of debris for clues to the fate of Malaysia Airlines flight MH370, along with marine life found on two other items which “almost certainly” came from the lost jet.
The latest two pieces-one found in South Africa and another on the Indian Ocean island of Mauritius-were brought to the Australian Transport Safety Bureau’s laboratories for testing last week.

5 reported dead in Texas floods

Torrential rainfall totaling 18 inches (46 cm) pummeled Houston on Monday, causing floods that were believed responsible for five deaths and that snarled transport and turned roads into lakes in the fourth most-populous US city.
More than 1,000 homes were flooded in Harris County, which contains Houston, and there were more than 1,000 water rescues as scores of neighborhoods and roads were hit by rushing water.
