A mobile court here on Tuesday realised Taka 100,000 as fine from the owner of an ice cream factory for producing items using substandard materials. The court, led by Executive Magistrate Khondaker Farhad Ahmed, conducted the drive in ‘Ujjal Ice cream’ factory at Zigri Bazar in Bagatipara upazila of the district and fined Taka 100,000 for using substandard materials in making ice creams. Sources said the owner also failed to show legal documents in setting up the factory. Later, the court realized Taka 100,000 from Abul Kalam, the owner of the ice cream factory. Khondaker Farhad Ahmed, also the UNO of Bagatipara upazila, said the fine was imposed under the Consumers’ Rights Protection Act.
Programming contest at SUST

The National High School Programming Contest-2016 has been held at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) in Sylhet. Chaired by SUST Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Aminul Haque Bhuiyan, noted writer and a distinguished faculty member of SUST Prof Muhammed Zafar Iqbal attended the programme. A total of 20 winners were awarded in two categories of the programming contest and 60 winners were awarded in three categories of quiz contest.
Deer hides recovered, poacher arrested
PIROJPUR: Members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in a drive recovered four deer hides from Bandakata area in Mathbaria upazila of the district and arrested a deer poacher in this connection on Tuesday. Acting on a tip off, a team of RAB-8 conducted the drive at Bandakata area under Tushkhali union in Mathbaria upazila and recovered four deer hides from a sack of deer poacher Mohammad Jewal Mollah, elite force official Habibur Rahman said.Arrested Mohammad Jewal Mollah, 32, a native of Patharghata upazila under Barguna district, was engaged in illegal deer hunting in Sundarban for a long time, the sources said, reports BSS.
Newborn found dead in Sirajganj

Police recovered the body of a newborn baby from Bara Hamkuria village in the sadar upazila of the district on Tuesday noon. The identity of the deceased could not be ascertained immediately. Sub-inspector Hafiz Rayhan of Sirajganj Sadar Police Station said local people spotted the body of the newborn floating in the water of a canal around 12pm. On information, police rushed in and recovered the body and buried it with the help of local people.
2 jailed for taking yaba in Satkhira
SATKHIRA : A mobile court at Kalaroa upazila today sentenced two persons to two years’ imprisonment each for taking yaba tablets. The mobile court led by Kalaroa upazila nirbahi Magistrate Uttam Kumar Roy pronounced the verdict. The convicts are Kaium Gazi, 45, son of Harun Gazi of Keragachhi village and Alamgir Hossain, 30, son of Sofiullah of Garakhali village of the upazila. Naib Subedar of Kakdanga BOP Kamal Hossain said on a tip off, a team of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) conducted a drive at Garakhali More of Kakdanga frontier and arrested them with 30 pieces of yaba tablet last mid-night. Later, they were produced before the court and the court gave the punishment, reports BSS.
