Shrimps worth Tk.3 lakh poisoned to death

Shrimps and fish of other species worth Tk.3 lakh were poisoned to death when miscreants poured poisons in 4 adjacent shrimp farms in the village Utkul within Jatrapur Union Parishad under Sadar Upazila in Bagerhat district at night on Thursday. It is reported that at mid night a number of miscreants poured poisons in those shrimp farms out of previous enmity with the owners of the shrimp farms. As a result, shrimps and fish of other species worth Taka more than 1.5 lakh of Sumu Shaikh, fish worth Taka more than 1 lakh of Santosh Das, fish worth Tk.50 thousand of Basu Bose and fish worth Tk.20 thousand of Sabur Shaikh of the village were completely destroyed. The matter was brought to the notice of the police of Bagerhat Sadar PS.

4 candidates for UP membership convicted

4 contesting candidates for UP membership of Kalatala Union Parishad under Chitalmari Upazila in Bagerhat district were fined by a Mobile Court headed by Md. Anwar Hossain, Assistant Commissioner for lands and Executive Magistrate of Chitalmari Upazila on Friday on the charge of breaking the UP Election Code, 2016.The court realized a sum of Tk.2 thousand from each following contesting candidates as a fine. They are Lutfor Rahman, Jahangir Hossain and Mujibor Rahman. On the other hand, the court realized a sum of Tk. one thousand from UP contesting candidate Md. Siddikur Rahman.

Heritage Fair begins in Panchagarh

PANCHAGARH: A two-day heritage fair kicked off on Saturday at the district’s archaeologically important site at Bhitargarh, a fortified city as old as the 7th century spreading across a 25-square kilometre area, being exposed through an ongoing excavation project. The Archaeology Department and the Bhitargarh Promotional Society (BPS) have jointly organised the fair to create awareness among locals about the conservation of the unique archeological site as well as to mark out its significance as a major heritage site outside world. Besides, the Bhitargarh Day was observed for the first time on Saturday. Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor inaugurated the Bhitargarh Day while BPS president Sohel Ahmed Chowdhury presided over the programme. Vice chancellor of ULAB Prof Imran Rahman, BPS member Rana Haider, team leader of Bhitargarh excavation Shahnaj Husne Jahan were also present on the occasion.

2 injured over loan repayment

A woman and another person were injured in an attack over repayment of borrowed money at Alapur Kaliganj village in Bishwanath upazila on Saturday afternoon over money. The injured were identified as Rahima Begum, 32, wife of Ramjan Ali, and rickshaw puller Kalam, 35, a resident of the village. Police said Sitar Ali, son of Hasmat Ullah, had borrowed Tk 3lakh from Rahima. Sitar swopped on her as she went to seek repayment of her money from him around 4am and hit her on the head, leaving her critically injured. As Kalam came to save Rahima, Sitar also attacked him, leaving him injured. The injured were admitted to Osmani Medical College Hospital. On information, police visited the spot.

Youth held with liquor
Beanibazar Thana police held a youth with 25 bottles of wine from Pawrasabha area on Thursday night. The detained was identified as Fayjur Rahman, 32, son of Aziz Uddin, of Muria union of the upazila. Source concerned said on tip-off, police conducted a drive in the area around 10:30pm and held Fayjur with 25 bottles of Indian officer choice wine. Officer-in-Charge Jubed Ahmed said a case was filed with the police station in this connection.

Jamaat leader arrested in Mymensingh

Police arrested a local leader of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami from Khamar Bazaar area in Muktagachha upazila of the district on Saturday. The arrestee was identified as Maulana Abdullah Mohammad Mujahid, 45, ameer of Jamaat Tarati union unit and treasurer of Muktagachha upazila unit of Jamaat. Police arrested him when he was distributing posters in Khamar Bazaar area, said Abu Mohammad Fazlul Karim, officer-in-charge of Muktagachha Police Station. Mujahid, also an assistant teacher of Padurbari High School in Muktagachha, was wanted in three cases including arson attack lodged with Muktagacha Police Station, the OC said. Police sent him to jail this morning after producing before the court. Heritage fair kicks off at Bhitargarh, reports UNB.
