Body formed over BCL’s death threat to teacher at RU

The authorities of Management Studies department at Rajshahi University (RU) on Wednesday formed a five member probe committee to investigate into a matter of death threat to a teacher by a Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leader. A masters student of the department Rahajul Amin alias Ridoy who was also identified as joint secretary of Bangladesh Chhatra League, RU unit on Monday threatened to kill Shamim Hossain, an assistant professor of the department as the teacher refused to give lunch boxes to a group of BCL activists without vouchers during the Bangla New Year celebrations. Shamim Hossain alleged that on Monday, Ridoy along with 12/13 BCL activists came to the room no 148 at the department and demanded lunch boxes for all of them around 1:30pm while I refused to give them lunch boxes without vouchers. Ridoy locked into altercation and later left the room threatening me with killing and also complained to the department chairman for not getting lunch, Shamim also said. ‘Two hours later, around 3:30pm, Ridoy also threatened me with dare consequences over phone for not complying with his demand,’ Shamim also added.

Exchange program held at Savar Gono Bissobidyalay

“What we learnt and seen from village in one month” heading experience exchange programme was held at Savar Gono Bisso Bidyalay on Sunday morning at P.H.P Auditorium of Gono Bisso Bidyalay. The new students of Public Health Community Medical College, Dental College And Department completed their orientation in some villages for one month. After the completion of orientation, on the basis of their acquired knowledge this experience exchange program was held. National professor Brigadier Abdul Malek (Rtd) was present in the program as a chief guest, Professor Dr. Farzana Islam, Vice-chancellor of Jahangir nagger University was present as a special guest, the program was presided over by Mezbah uddin, Vice-chancellor of Gono bissobidyalay. Professor Dr. Laila Banu, Dr. Morsheda Chowdhury, Register Delower Hossain, of Gonobissobidyalay gave welcome speech in the program. Among others, Sub register Murtuza babu, members of trustee board, Din of various department, heads of department were also present at the time.

BRAC Agri , Food Security Program held in Barisal

Peasants Day in the field for disseminating nutritional messages through cultivating Vegetables and Orange Flesh Sweet Potato (OFSP) was held on Wednesday at the Babuganj upazila of Barisal district by BRAC Agriculture and Food Security Programme . Abdul Matin Haoladar, local UP chairman, presided over the field-day programme arranged under USAID Horticulture Project at the courtyard of farmer Shahjahan Haoladar in Bakshir Char village under Chandpasha union of Babuganj upazila of the district. The programme was attended by more than one hundred local government representatives, farmers, elites, officials. Among others it was addressed by Baqahid Hossain, upazila nirbahi officer, Humaun Kabir, upazila agriculture officer, Muhidul Hasan Manik, field coordinator, Ripan Chandra Mandal, District BRAC representative, Saiful Islam, regional manager (USAID Horticulture) Agriculture and food Security. The speakers and organizers said main objective of the Field Day to cultivating vitamin and food value enriched Vegetables and Orange Flesh Sweet Potato (OFSP) in the crop fields was to familiar the participants and stake holders with the improved agricultural technology as well as to disseminate that technology to local farmers. They said under this USAID funded programme more than one lakh peasants’ and marginal farmers of southern region, including 1,667 of Babuganj upazila, were given cash, seed, fertiliser, irrigation, technological assistance and training on cultivating vegetables, potato, sweet potato at the crop fields and courtyards, the organizers told.
