Two drug peddlers get life- term in Barisal

A Barisal court on Tuesday sentenced two drug peddlers to life term imprisonment. Rafikul Islam, judge of the tribunal for preventing crimes against public safety, announced this verdict in absence of the both accused. The sentenced accused were Shah Alam, son of Alauddin Sheikh from Tungipara of Gopalganj and Kamrul Islam, son of late Rupchan Morol from Jhikargachha of Jessore. The court also fined each of the sentenced accused Tk 10 thousand or to serve more 6 month imprisonment in default. Court sources said a team of detective branch of Barisal Metropolitan Police in a drive searching a rickshaw van at Ichhakathi-Laden Sarak crossing under Barisal Airport Police Station recovered 116 bottles Phensidyl and rrested the aforesaid two accused on January 16, 2013 late night.

Local goverment workshop held

The 2nd Local Government supported project of UNDP and PIACT- Bangladesh jointly arranged Kishoreganj District Level Workshop held at Local Circuite House conference room on Wednesday. Deputy Commissioner Md. Azimuddin Biswash was attended as chief guest while ADC (General) & Deputy Director Local Government Tarafder Md. Akhte Jamil in the chair. It was addressed among others by Sadar UNO Abu Naser Beg, UNDP District Facilitator Md. Nazrul Islamd, UPGP Senior Officer Monira Mujumder, Principal Gulshan Ara Begum, Union Chairman Fazle Kabir, Rafiqul Islam, District Press Club President Mostafa Kamal and Senior Journalist Saiful Haque Mollah Dulu. UNDP and PIACT- Bangladesh contributing significantly in the improvement of reproductive health, mother and child nutrition, education and capacity building of disadvantaged women and children. At least 60 people including Government official, Public Representives, Journalist, NGO Officers and elite classes.

One killed in M’bazar road accident

Motorcycle rider Arif Hossain, 23, died on the spot and co-rider Babul Miah, 22, received serious injuries when their motorcycle dashed a road side tree at Raouthgaon under Kulaora upazila of the district this morning. Arif Hossain, son of Kamal Hossain, hails from Sultanpur village under Pritimpasha of Kulaora upazila. Injured Babul Miah was admitted to Moulabibazar Sadar Hospital wher he is under treatment.

Robbery committed in M’ bazar

A robbery was committed in the residence of former commissioner of Moulvibazar Pourashava and businessman Md. Yusuf Ali in the early hours of Monday. Robbers broke into the house in Banabithi area of the town and injured the guard of the house Jewel Ahmed by stabbing him. They also took the inmates of the house hostage at gun-point and looted 45 tolas of gold jewelery, one motorcycle, one bicycle and other valuables worth Tk2.8 million. Owner of the house Yusuf Ali said about 10 to 15 robbers entered the house by breaking the door of the drawing room and committed the robbery at gun-point. The robbers had mask on, thus identity could not be known. Receiving information police rushed to the spot and detained the injured guard of the house Jewel Ahmed.
