One Fahim Islam from Panchagarh thana area who was kidnapped from Kurigram three days back has been rescued and the police arrested the kidnapper Pallab Chandra Roy recently. The kidnapper is identified as Pallab Chandra Roy , son of Paresh Chandra Roy of Tetulea thana area of Panchagarh district. Police sources said, Pallab Chandra Roy came to the house of Akramul of village Sibram under Kathalbari Union of Kurigram Sadar thana on Tuesday as he was well known earlier. At one stage he took away his child Fahim Islam tactfully to Kurigram town in plea of traveling and kidnapped to Panchgarh. Later, he demanded three lakh taka as ransom over cell phone. Finding no alternative way Akramul, father of Fahim Islam filed a kidnap case in Kurigram Sadar police station. Later in the source of mobile phone led by S.I. of Kurigram Sadar thana with the help of Tetulia thana police rescued the kidnapped child from thana area.

Ex-Shibir Sylhet President held

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested Shahriar Alam Shipar, former president of the Sylhet city unit of Islami Chhatra Shibir, from TB Gate area in the city on Friday afternoon. Tipped off, a team of Rab-9 conducted a raid on a house in the area and arrested Shipar at about 1:00 pm. The Shibir leader was wanted in 30 cases, including for attack on police and subversive activities, the major added. The major also said of the cases, court issued arrest warrants in 18 against him.
2 DB officials receive IGP award
Two member of the Detective Branch (DB) of Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP) have received “Inspector General of Police (IGP) Padak” for their outstanding performance in investigation into the Rajon murder case. The award recipients are DB inspector Suronjit Talukder, who was investigation officer of the murder case, and assistant commissioner Gopal Chakrabarty. IGP AKM Shahidul Haque handed over the awards to them at a function on Thursday. On November 8 last year, a Sylhet court sentenced four people to death, one to life term imprisonment, three others to seven years’ jail and two others to one year’s imprisonment each in the case filed for torturing 13-year-old boy Sheikh Samiul Alam Rajon to death over a ‘theft’ at Sundar Ali Market in Kumargaon area of the city on July 8.
114 children trafficked in 2015 in Khulna div

A total of 114 children of whom 45 are female and 69 male were trafficked in the year 2015 in Khulna division while 103 children were murdered, the information was disclosed at training for media personnel on child trafficking prevention held at the conference room of Right Jessore, human rights organization on Wednesday. Umme Kausar Sumana, programme manager and Sarwar Hossain, training officer, Rights Jessore presented key note papers in the training. In the meantime, the Indian Border Force killed 2 children, abducted 4 and tortured two more children.
Sale of adulterated petrol going on in Rangpur

A section of unscrupulous fuel traders at different areas of the district are doing brisk business by selling adulterated and substandard petrol to the vehicle owners and drivers alleged that the fuel traders are deceiving people by selling adulterated petrol to them. They are also earning huge profit by cheating consumers. It is very difficult to identify the colour of adulterated petrol. Many of them also alleged that their vehicles are getting damaged after using the spurious petrol. It is further alleged that owing to lack monitoring by the concerned authorities, the consumers of fuel at different upazilas have become hostage to the dishonest fuel traders. A number of vehicle owners also alleged that due to use of adulterated petrol various problems are arising in the engines of the vehicles. The engines of their vehicles emit thick black smoke with harsh sound which is also polluting the environment.
