Cow lifter lynched in Gangachara

An angry mob lynched member of a cow lifters gang and injured two others in village Nilokchondi Paschimpara under Gangachara upazila this morning, police said. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gangachara Thana Zinnat Ali said a gang of inter-district cow lifters lifted cows from the village when the local people caught three of them while they were leaving the area at around 5 am yesterday. After catching the three cow lifters red-handed with lifted cows, the angry mob started mass-beating critically injuring all of them on the spot. Being informed, Gangachara Thana police rushed to the spot, rescued the injured cow lifters in a critical conditions and rushed them to the Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RMCH) in the morning. After arrival at the RMCH, the attending doctor declared Abdus Salam, one of the injured cow lifers, hailing from Sadullapur upazila in Gaibandha district dead.
Computers, laptops, modems distributed among farmers

Agriculture Department of the district distributed computers, laptops and internet modems among 500 farmers of Mathbaria upazila of the district on Wednesday. The ICT gazettes were distributed in simple function arranged in this occasion at Mathbaria upazila premises here. President of Integrated Pest Management (IPM0 club M A Khalek Hawlader presided over the function while upazila chairman Ashrafur Rahman attended as the chief guest. Agriculture information officer of Barisal zone Shahadat Hossain, upazila agriculture officer Subrato Kanti Datta, Professor Gonesh Chandra Adhikari, farmer Bidhan Chandra with others spoke the function.
Jamaat’s hartal observed in Barisal

The day long strike called by Jammat- e- Islami Bangladesh protesting confirming death sentence for crimes against humanity of JIB Ameer Matiur Rahman Nizami by Supreme Court, passed without hampering daily life in Barisal on Thursday . Only some big show rooms, shopping centers, markets and financial institutions functioned normally ignoring hartal. Transactions in financial institutions, market, attendances in educational institutions, and judicial, administrative offices in Barisal were also normal. Law enforcers patrolled on city roads and deployed on important places to foil the activities of pro-hartal activists. Road and water transportation’s on short, internal and long routes functioned on Thursday, said Aftab Hossain, president of bus owners association and city Sramik League, informed. Abu Syed, assistant commissioner and spokesman of Barisal Metropolitan Police, said none was arrested and no case was lodged in connection of strike at four police stations under BMP.

Student killed in Rajshahi road crash

Rajshahi : A madrasah student was killed as a truck crashed into his bicycle in Naodapara Bazar of the city on Wednesday night. The deceased was identified as Masud Hoossain, 17, son of Majibur Rahman, a resident of the area and a student of Bashirabad Madrasa. Abdur Rouf, officer-in-charge of Shah Makhdum Police Station, said the truck hit Masud’s bicycle in the area around 7:30pm, leaving him dead on the spot. On information, police recovered the body, reports UNB.
