Charges framed against 4 in schoolboy killing case

A court here on Tuesday framed charges against four accused in the case for killing schoolboy Abu Sayeed. Judge of Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Abdur Rashid passed an order for starting the trial of the case on November 19. The four against whom the charges were framed are: Ebadur Rahman, constable of Airport Police Station, Mahib Hossain Masum, publicity secretary of the Sylhet district unit of Olama League, Abdur Rakib, general secretary of the district Olama League, and Ataur Rahman Geda, an police informant. Of them, Masum, who had remained absconding, surrendered before the court on November 10. On March 14, police recovered decomposed body of Abu Sayeed, 9, a fourth grader of Shahi Eidgah Hazrat Shahi Mir Govt Primary School, from the house of police constable Ebadur at Jharnapar in the city after he had been kidnapped on March 11. Police arrested constable Ebadur Rahman, Rakib and Geda in connection with the killing. The arrestees were then interrogated at the police station where they reportedly confessed to killing the schoolboy.
309 bottles of Indian wine seized in Sylhet
Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in a drive seized 309 bottles of Indian wine in Companiganj upazila early Saturday. Source said, on secret information, BGB conducted a drive at Dhalai Nadi area around 2:30am and seized the wine worth around 4.6 lakh in an abandoned condition.
Youth held over violence, extortion in Magura
MAGURA : Police arrested a young man in connection with two valance and extortion cases from Parnanduali village in Sadar upazila on Monday night. The arrestee was identified as Soukhin Molla,22, son of Quddus Molla, a resident of the village. Officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station Munsi Asaduzzaman said tipped off, a team of police conducted a raid on the house of Soukhin in the area and arrested him at night. The law enforcers also recovered two hand bombs, two machetes and one sharp weapon from his possession, reports UNB.
BNP leader held over sabotage in Jessore

Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested a local leader of BNP in connection with a sabotage case from Kamarbari More in Sharsha upazila of Jessore district on Monday night. The arrestee was identified as Khairuzzaman Madhu, president of Sharsha upazila unit of BNP. Police said tipped off, a team of the DB police conducted a raid on the house of Khairuzzaman in the area and arrested him at night. Officer-in-charge of DB Mohammad Hashmi confirmed the arrest.
8 held for public intoxication in Jessore
Police in a drive arrested eight people for public intoxication in Matwari area of the district town on Sunday night. The arrestees were identified as Hari Chand, 20, Bipul Hasan, 22, Rubel, 25, Masud Rana, 30, Rasel, 28, Sumon, Azhar and Saiful Islam, 30, all residents of the district town. Rafiqul Islam, in-charge of Jessore Sadar police outpost, said being tipped-off, a team of police conducted the drive in the area around 10:20pm and arrested them. A case was filed in this connection.
