Jamaat leader held in Sylhet

Police arrested Jamaat-e-Islami district (South) unit general secretary Maulana Lokman Ahmad on various charges from his house in South Surma upazila early Thursday. Officer-in-charge of South Surma Police Station Ataur Rahman said tipped off, a team of police conducted a raid on the house of Lokman, former chairman of the upazila parishad, in the area and arrested him at about 3:00 am. There are several cases filed against the Jamaat leader, the OC added.
2 fish traders held, 15 mounds Jatka seized in Barisal

Teams of Fishery Department has been continuing operation against netting ‘Jatka’ (hilsa fry less than 10 inch or 26 centimeters in length) at different areas of Barisal on Saturday seized 15 mounds Jatka on Saturday. Bimal Chandra Das, district fishery officer (hilsa), said two fish-traders were arrested with those Jatka at Taltali area of the city skirt on Saturday morning. Those Jatkas were carried on five boats for from different areas for selling and marketing in Barisal city, fishery official told. Then the two arrestees identified as fish trader Rezaul Karim. 44, and Jasimuddin, 26, with seized Jatka placed before the mobile court formed at Barisal led by Abdur Rouf Mia, Sadar upazila nirbahi officer and administrative magistrate. The court sentenced each of the arrested two accused to 1-year imprisonment and they sent to jail on Saturday afternoon. The court also ordered to distribute seized Jatka to different orphanages, madrasa, slums of the city, court sources informed.
One crushed under roof of abandoned bldg in Sherpur
SHERPUR: A local trader was killed as the roof of an abandoned vegetables market in Noyani Bazar area of the district town collapsed on Sunday afternoon. The deceased was identified as Akram Hossain, 55, son of Siraj Bepari, a resident of Mirganj area and a kitchen trader of local market. Witnesses said a portion of the roof of the abandoned market collapsed on Akram while a group of workers were working there, leaving him critically injured. Rescued by the local people, he was rushed to Sherpur District Hospital. As his condition was deteriorated, he was referred to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital. He succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital, reports UNB.
