Body of young man recovered from ditch

Dead body of a young man (22) was recovered by the police from a ditch in the village Barakpur under Bagerhat Sadar Upazila on Friday. The deceased was identified as Sohel Fakir, son of one Hashem Fakir of Dighirpar village, adjacent to the historic Saitgumbaz mosque of Hazart Peer Khaja Khan Jahan Ali (peace be on him), 8 kilometres away from here.Police said , being informed of the matter they (police) went to the spot and, recovered the dead body and sent it to Bagerhat morgue for its autopsy. It is further learnt from the police that there are a number of criminal cases pending in the local PS against the deceased. Sohel and his three associates left their houses on Sunday. But they did not return home. A clash took place between Sohel and three others over taking the share of something intoxicated.. At one stage they stabbed him to death and threw his dead body in a ditch of a bushy land. After the incident those three have been absconding. The wives of those three disclosed the matter to the police when they were interrogated by them (police).

Sylhet medical students demand arrest of attackers

Students of the Sylhet Osmani Medical College on Wednesday demanded immediate arrest of the attackers on a fellow student and sought assurance of their security on the college campus. The injured student was Rahat, a third year medical student who was seriously injured by the activists of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal. Classmates of Rahat boycotted classes on Wednesday to protest at the attack. Under the banner of general students, they formed a human chain in front of the medical college campus on Wednesday morning.

Child drowns at pond in Babuganj

Dead body of a child recovered from the pond near Madavpasha bridge area under Babuganj upazila on Saturday afternoon. Shaheduzzaman, , Barisal Airport Police Station in charge, told the victim was identified as Bellal Hossain,3, son of Zakir Khalifa of the area. Bellal went missing during playing at courtyard and after searching revered from the pond of the house and declared as dead after brought to Barisal Sher E Bangla Medical College Hospital. Dead body handed over to family members after lodging a case of unnatural death, police sources said.

Dental workshop held at Kishoreganj

The Health Education Bureau organised a workshop on “Take care of teeth and mouth and preserve a good health” was held at Kishoreganj on Saturday. Bazlur Rahman, District Health Education Officer presided over the programe.. Mrinal Kanti Pandit, Civil Surgeon, Kishoreganj was present as Chief Guest. Dr. Mukhlesur Rahman, Deputy Civil Surgeon, Kishoreganj was present as special guest. Dr. Sandip Kumar Dutta, Dental Surgeon, A B M Lutfor Rashid Rana , Editor, The Daily Kishoreganj Times spoke on the subject. A total of thirty trainees attended the training programme.

39th founding anniv of Islamic Foundation observed

The 39th foundation anniversary was observed at Kishoreganj on Saturday. A colourful rally was brought out by the Islami Foundation. The rally paraded different through fares and ended at Islamic Foundation Office. On the occasion a meeting was aranged by the Islamic Foundation office, Kishoreganj. Abdul Wadud Bhuiyan, Deputy Director, presided over the meeting while S M Alam, Deputy Commissioner, Kishoreganj was present as Chief Guest, Ahammad Ullah, Editor, Dainik Shatabdir Kontha and Badal Rahman President Kishoreganj Chamber of Commerce and Industry were present as special guests.

Polybag sales go on unabated in Rangpur

Rampant sale and use of banned polythene bags, declared harmful to the environment, continues all over the district.
According to sources, the use of polythene in the district was stopped for some time after the government’s prohibition. But taking chance on the indifference of concerned authorities, some unscrupulous traders have started selling polythene in the urban and rural markets.
