Businessman killed in Barisal bus accident

Owner of a motor workshop was killed under wheels of bus and the driver was handed over to police by local people on Wednesday afternoon at Band Road area of the city. The dead victim was identified as Kabir Hossain Mallik, 44, owner of Bina Motor Workshop of the area and son of Kader Mallik from Charbaria of Sadar upazila. Police and witnesses said activists of Jubo League rushed to the city on reserved bus in morning from different areas to attend functions for observing 43rd founding anniversary of the organisation. After ending the programmes when they started return journey, one bus of the caravan crushed Kabir Hossain under wheels. Kabir Hossain declared as dead after brought to Barisal Sher E Bangla Medical College Hospital at about 1: 10 PM and his dead body sent to morgue for autopsy, said Dr. Ranbir Das, emergency medical officer of the hospital. Shakhawat Hossain, Kotwali police station officer in charge, said police detained the bus (Bhola- Ja-110004), but driver managed to flee from the spot, the OC said.
One killed in road mishap in C’ nawabganj

One person was killed as he was run over by a truck at Boiltala on the Chapainawabganj-Sonamasjid highway on Wednesday night. The victim was identified as Mamun Ali, 32, son of Abdul Mannan of Nayalabhanga under Shibganj upazila of the district. Police said, Mamun was returning home from Chapainawabganj by a motor cycle and as he reached Boiltala under Shibganj upazila at around 7-30 pm, a goods laden truck hailing from Sonamasjid crushed him under its wheels. He died on the spot. Being informed, police from Shibganj thana recovered the dead body but the killer truck fled away, the sources added.
Citizen journalism workshop held in Sunamganj

A three-day workshop on citizen journalism was held at a local training centre Sunamganj recently. The workshop was organised by Care Bangladesh and it ended on Wednesday.
United Kingdom- based development organization Care Bangladesh Women and Girls Lead Global Project Manager Rawnak Jahan co-ordinated the workshop at the FIVDV Training Centre while Care Bangladesh Consultant Abdullah Hasan, Bangladesh Television News Producer Mohammad Moniruzzaman Khan, Jago News Assistant News Editor Ariful Islam Arman and Children Media Forum Bangladesh Co-coordinator Saif Mahdee conducted the specific sessions here. Project team leader Reza Mahmud Al Huda was also present at the workshop. The trainees got training with practical knowledge on different issues including rights of adolescence, mass-media, news, news sources, classification of news, definition of news introduction (intro), elements of intro, intro-writing method, news writing strategy and structure, news value, character of news, citizen journalism, ethics of journalism, quality of journalist, definition of issue and selecting issues of citizen journalism.
6 jailed for unfairmeans in Nagarkanda

A mobile court fined and jailed six persons for supplying copies to JSC (junior school certificate) examinees in Nagarkanda upazila in the district. Nagarkanda Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) and Executive Magistrate Abdul Aziz conducted the court on Wednesday . The court sentenced six weeks non-rigiroous jail and one thousand taka fine to Maruf Hossen of Dohisara village and Tariqul Islam of Chandhat village each. The court sentenced four weeks jail and five hundred taka fine to Palash Chandra Biswas, office assistant of Brammandanga High School, Rafiqul Islam of Moshaujan village and Milon Hossen of Jogdia moholla under Nagarkanda pourashava each.
