National Co-operative Day observed

Kishoreganj District Co-operative Department arranged a discussion, rally and documentary film marking the 44th National Co-operative Day on Saturday . A discussion meeting was held at Local Somaboy Community Center in the town on Saturday noon. Acting Deputy Commisioner Kazi Abed Hossain attended as Chief Guest while District Co-operative Somiti President Alhaj Humayon Kabir in the chair. It was addressed among others by District Co-operative Officer Abu Eashan Apu, District Awami League Acting General Secretary Advocate M.A Afzal, Abu Khaled Pattan, Freedom Frighter Basir Uddin Faruki. A colourfull rally was brought out in the town.
BRAC observes FI Week in Rangpur

BRAC observed FI (Financial Inclusion) Week from November 1 to November 5 in Rangpur as elsewhere in 64 districts in the country. On the occasion BRAC micro-finance programme organised different programmes. As a part of the programmes Deputy Commissioner Rangpur Rahat Anwar visited BRAC Rangpur area office at Darsona in the city and was informed elaborately about various aspects of the programmes of the organisation. He also attended the loan disbursement programme of brac and exchanged views with the officials. He also lauded the activities of the organisation including microfinance programmes. Besides, Upazila Nirbahi officer Rangpur Sadar, Ziaur Rahman also visited BRAC learning centre and area office in Rangpur and exchanged views with the officials about the different programmes of the organisation on the same day.
Two held with drugs, weapons

Police arrested two including an UP member with drugs and sharp weapons from C and B Road area of the city on early Friday.The arrestees were identified as Khan Md. Abubakar Siddik, 35, a member of Karnakathi union parishad under Sadar upazila and Sentu Mia, 31, a drug peddler of Barisal. Ansaruddin, assistant commissioner of Barisal Metropolitan Police, said police raided the rented house of Mozammel Hossain Shahid in the area on basis of tip-off and arrested the two as accused in cases of drug peddling and extortions.Then searching the house police recovered 210 pieces of Yaba tablet, 11 bottles of Phensidyl, alcoholic drinks three bottles, two sharp weapons and cash 14,050 taka,The arrested two sent to jail after producing before the court on Friday morning, police sources added.
College girl commits suicide
A college girl committed suicide by hanging herself from the rooftop of bed room on Friday at Oxford Mission Road area of the city.The victim was identified as Benazir Aktar Runa, 24, final year honours student of Barisal Government Brojo Mohun College and daughter of Abdul Latif Mia, ward Swechchhasebok League president and a tenant of Rana Mansion of the area.Ansaruddin, assistant commissioner of Barisal Metropolitan Police, said after an altercation over family issues, Runa went to sleep on Thursday night and relatives failed to get response from her after repeated calling and knocking door till Friday late morning.Then they breaking the door of the room found dead body of Runa hanging from the roof of the room and informed police.
10 Bangladeshis return from India

A total of 10 Bangladeshis including two babies and a woman returned Bangladesh from India on Friday noon. The Bangladeshis were arrested by the Indian police after going there in search of better jobs, said Tariqul Islam, officer in-charge, Benapole immigration police, Jessore. The police said the Bangladeshis were arrested by the Indian police from different places several times for going there without any legal document and were sent to prisons. The Bangladeshis were able to come back to Bangladesh after initiatives taken by the Bangladesh government.
