15 Jamaat- Shibir leaders, activists arrested in Faridpur
FARIDPUR: The law enforcing agencies consisting of police, RAB and BGB carried on a joint operation yesterday night in different parts of the district netting 15 Jamaat-e-Islami leaders and activists. According to police sources, in Bhanga upazilla Jamaat Islami Amir and also the upazilla vice-chairman of Bhanga upazilla Md. Sarwar Hossain was arrested along with another BNP activist Iqbal. In Madhukhali Poura Amir of Jamaat Liaquat Hossain and seven other Jamaat activists were arrested by the law enforcers. In Nagarkanda upazilla, the upazilla Amir of Jamaat Sohrab Hossain has been taken into custody. In Sadar upazilla five Shibir activists were arrested. According to a police source, the law enforcers have taken the measures as a preventive measure to check any untoward incident to keep the law and order peaceful for the citizens, reports BSS.
One killed in road accident in Mymensingh

A passenger of CNG run auto rickshaw was killed and four others injured in a road accident at Charkunia mari in Mymensingh Sadar upazila on Shambuganj-Kishoreganj road on Thursday morning. The victim was identified as Kutubuddin 60, of Haraganj area under Hossainpur upazila of Kishoreganj district. Police said, the accident took place when a Kishoreganj bound truck collided head on with the auto rickshaw coming from opposite irection at around 10 am. The injured persons were rushed to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital. They are; Lal Miah 45, Shemul 25, Hatem 50 and Sydul Islam 35. All of them are from Hossainpur. Hospital sources said the condition of Sydul is critical. Police seized the truck but its driver managed to escape. No case was filed till writing of this report.
One held with 216 bottles of wine in Sunamganj
SUNAMGANJ: Members of the Rapid Action Battalion(RAB) in a drive arrested a young man with 216 bottles of Indian wine from Boro Kupsi area under Jamalganj upazila of the district yesterday night. The arrested was identified as Ansar Ali, 30, son of Hashmat Ali of Khidderpur village under Bishwambhorpur upazila. Acting on a tip off, a team of RAB-9 conducted the drive in Boro Kupsi area last night and arrested the young man with 216 bottles of wine. A case was recorded with Jamalganj thana in this connection, reports BSS.
Drug peddler gets life in Barisal

A court in Barisal sentenced one accused to life imprisonment for drug peddling on Wednesday afternoon. The accused Syed Ziaul Hossain Rumman, son of Mozammel Hossain from Dengu Sardar Bari of South Alekanda in the city also fined Tk 10 thousand or to suffer one month imprisonment in default. Rafiqul Islam, judge of the tribunal for preventing crimes against public safety announced this verdict after examining 8 witnesses and other evidences. Court sources said police in a drive arrested Rumman for drug peddling and recovered 40 bottles Phensidyl from his home on October 3, 2012. Sub Inspector Shah Md. Faisal as complainant lodged a case with Kotwali police station on the same night. Sub Inspector Delwar Hossain submitted charge sheet against the accused after investigation on October 31 of the same month.

LALMONIRHAT: Detective Branch (DB) of police in plain clothes seized 72 bottles of Indian contraband phensidyl syrup from a paddy field at Megharam village under Lalmonirhat Sadar upazila of the district Wednesday night.
DB police sources said based on secret information, a team of DB police led by Sub-Inspector (SI) Mizan raided the village and seized the bottles of phensidyl in an abandoned condition. The drug peddlers however managed to escape the spot sensing the presence of the law enforcers. A case was filed with Lalmonirhat Sadar Thana this morning, SI Mizan said, reports BSS.
