10 lakh meters current net seized

The Coast Guard personnel seized 10 lakh meters of banned current net in a drive from river Meghna under Hizla upazila of Barisal district on Wednesday. Acting on a tip off, the members of the Coast Guard conducted the drive at a trawler and found 19 sacks loaded with current net in an abandoned condition, Coast Guard Contingent Commander of Harinathpur, Mohammad Bahar, told journalists. The staff members fled from the trawler sensing the presence of the Coast Guard personnel. The seized nets were burnt, the commander added.
Illegally imported items seized

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in a drive seized huge illegally imported items including bidi and biscuits worth Tk16 lakh from Nayapur village along Jointapur border area of the district on Thursday.Tipped-off, a team of BGB battalion-41 led by conducted a drive in the village and seized a van around 4.30am. Later the BGB members recovered five lakh pieces of Indian bidi, 530 packets of biscuits worth Tk 16 lakh from the covered van. However, no one was arrested as the smugglers managed to flee from the spot sensing the presence of the border guards.
Housewife electrocuted in Dinajpur
DINAJPUR: A housewife was electrocuted at Ranipur village under Chirirbandar upazila of the district on Thursday morning. The victim was Alefa Begum, 40, wife of Rasidul Haque, a resident of the same area. Police said Alefa was seriously injured and was sent to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries, reports BSS.
3 held with Yaba, Phensidyl, pistol
COMILLA : Police arrested three people, including a woman, in possession of 1,000 pieces of Yaba tablet, 27 bottles of Phensidyl syrup and one pistol from Dhulirpar village in Daudkandi upazila early Saturday. The arrestees were identified as Jahangir Alam, son of Sadek Hossain, a resident of Dhulirpar village in Daudkandi upazila, and Palash, son of Golam Mohammad, a resident of Biramkandi village in Titas upazila of Comilla, and Champa Begum, wife of Abdur Rahman, a resident of Gunapara village in Sadar upazila of Cox’s Bazar. Officer-in-charge of Daudkandi Police Station Abu Salam Miah said tipped off, a team of police conducted a raid on the house of Jahangir Alam in the area and arrested the trio at about 2:00am. The law enforcers also recovered 1,000 pieces of Yaba tablet, 27 bottles of Phensydil syrup and one pistol searching the house. Separate cases were filed against them under the Arms Act and the Narcotics Control Act, the OC added, reports UNB.
Probe inquiry into disciplinary cases stressed
Rajshahi: Carrying out proper and authentic inquiry into the disciplinary cases is very vital for taking action against the corrupt officials and other persons concerned for the sake of establishing a justice-based society, said speakers at a discussion here. They viewed there is a need for making the investigation process and activities transparent and accountable especially in the banking sector so that it can attain confidence of all quarters concerned as a whole. In this regard, gaining professional skills is very important. They were addressing the closing and certificate-giving ceremony of a four-day training course titled “Disciplinary Cases Processing Activities” for some officers of Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank (RAKUB) at its training institute in the city yesterday afternoon. RAKUB organized the course for its 35 branch level bankers from senior officers to principal officers to give them idea about the inquiry process. In phases, all the 378 branch level bankers will be brought under the course.
