The day-long seventh annual reception ceremony for honouring the ‘Pal and Kumars’ (sculptors and artisans of pottery and idols) was held in Barisal on Tuesday calling to patronize traditional arts and crafts. They also called for enlistment and giving professional recognition and social status for maintaining folks, religious harmonies and heritages. ‘Saptom Dakkhinanchaliya Mritshilpi Sammelon O Sanmanona-2015’ organized the programme at Ashwini Kumar Hall of the city with an exhibition of traditional arts and crafts including Nakshi Kathas, pottery works, handicrafts, photographs, paintings. Prof. Nisar Hossain, dean of fine arts faculty of Dhaka University, inaugurated the programme by lighting lamps and singing Sarad Sangeet led by Manisha Das. It was divided into two sessions of inauguration, discussion and cultural functions. District Puja Udjapon Parishad president Rakhal Chandra Dey presided first session in morning and Akkas Hossain, cultural activist, presided the second session of the programme at evening . Sushanta Ghosh, convener of the Parshad delivered welcome address and Dr. Gazi Md. Saifuzzaman, deputy commissioner Barisal district was chief guest of the inaugural session of the programme. Among others Prof Ziaul Huq, Prof. Imanul Hakim, Dr. Kazi Mozammel Haque, Tanzim Ahmed, Shanti Das, Syed Dulal, Mrinal Kanti Saha, Narayan Chandra Dey Naru, Bappi Majumdar, Nazrul Biawas, educationist, cultural, community and professional leaders, addressed the sessions.
Durga Puja being celebrated in Gouripur

The third day of the five-day long Sharadiya Durga Puga continued on Tuesday in Gouripur upazila of Mymensingh district with due festivity, joy and traditional enthusiasm. Large number of Hindu devotees were seen thronging different puja mandaps to offer their Austami puja on Wednesday morning. A good number of Hindus from all walks of life visited Masterpara, Baganbari, Kalikhala, Madda Bazar, Durga Bari, Sarkerpara, Station Road the most attractive puja mandaps of the town to perform their – Austtami Puja this morningReligious chorus and Aratrika were being performed peacefully by the devotees at every puja mandap, Secretary of Puja Udjapan Parishad, Shamal Chandra Kar said to the New Nation. Talking to the New Nation Md. Akhtar Morshed, OC of Gouripur Thana said, the police administrations and other law enforcement agencies took special security measures for ensuring peaceful celebration of the festival under the leadership of Moinul Haque, Police Super of Mymensigh district and also said, there was no report of any untoward incident centering the Durga puja celebrations.
It was seen that different political leaders as well as Freedom Fighter Dr. Capt. (Retd.) Alhajj Mujibur Rahman Fakir MP, former State Minister for Health & Family Welfare visited the Puja spots in different areas of this upazila and greeted the Hindu community.
