One killed, 14 injured as dead body carrier truck plunged into ditch

One person was killed, 14 were injured as dead body carrier truck plunged into roadside ditch at Madina Masjid area under Gournadi upazila of Barisal on Dhaka-Barisal highway on Sunday morning. The victim was identified as Wahidul Islam, 40, from Suryapasha under Nalcity upazila of Jhalakathi district. Syed Mahbubur Rahman, Gournadi highway police station officer- in- charge, said 35/40 family members and relatives carrying dead body of Abdul Hakim Mia (60) started journey from Dhaka to Suryapasha on a truck (Dhaka-Da-14-3228) Saturday night. When the truck reached near Madina Masjid of Kasba area under Gournadi upazila on Dhaka-Barisal highway, driver of the truck lost control over vehicle and plunged to roadside ditch at about 7:00 AM Sunday. Md. Alauddin , Gournadi police station officer in charge, said police and fire service men rushed to the spot started rescue operation immediately. However among the recovered injured Wahidul, nephew of the carried dead body, died at the spot, and almost all of the passengers injured and given primary treatment at Gournadi upazila health complex.
Mass signature at RU protesting sexual harassment

A mass signature progamme was held yesterday at Rajshahi University protesting the sexual harassment on campus.RU unit Women Council launched the campaign at the university Tukitaki chattar that continued from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. Madhobi Chowdhury Roy, acting general secretary of RU unit Women Council inaugurated the campaign. Contacted, Manoshi Adhikari, RU unit Chhatri Parishad president told that they observed the programme demanding the fair justice of all the previous incident of sexual harassment on campus. They also demanded the fully secured campus for the free movement of female student. “Sexual harassment on campus was happening one after another as the culprits were not taken to justice”, She also said.
Reception to brilliant students in Natore

Some 500 brilliant students of Baraigram and Gurudaspur upazila were accorded reception on Saturday at Gurudaspur Pilot High School of Natore district recently. The reception was accorded by Gurudaspur Kollol Foundation to the brilliant students who got GPA-5 in S.S.C and H.S.C examinations in 2015. Member of Parliament (M.P) of Natore-4 seat Prof. Abdul Kuddus was present as a chief guest. Pro.V.C of Rajshahi University Prof. Choudhury Sorwar Jahan, Natore Deputy Commissioner Md Moshiur Rahman, Police Super Shemol Kumar Mukharji, Bonpara Pouro Mayor KM Jakir Hossain, Gurudaspur Pouro Mayor Shah Neoyaj Ali Mollah, Gurudaspur Upazila Nirbahi Officer Ms. Yesmin Akhter and Baraigram Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Ruhul Amin. The reception function was presided over by Mukthadirul Islam of the foundation and conducted by Gurudaspur Upazila Women Affairs Officer Nilufer Yeasmin. This function was also addressed among others by student Sumona Akhter Jemi, Fozle Rabby. Reshma Khatun, In this function, the chief guest Prof. Abdul Kuddus gave away a crest, flower-stick and a certificate to the brilliant students. Kollol Foundation was named after the name of Kollol who was killed by the then Pakistany-army in 1971 and son of the M.P of Natore-4 seat Prof. Abdul Kuddus. A huge number of people including students, guardians, officials, elite persons and journalists were present in this function. This Kollol Foudation was established in 2012.
