Accused snatch from police custody in Jessore

Miscreants snatched an accused from police custody at Narangali Bazar under Kotwali police station on Wednesday night. A case was lodged with the police station in this regard, said Shikder Akkas Ali, Officer- In-Charge, Kotwali Police Station. According to the case filed by Solaiman Akkas, sub inspector, Kotwali police station, miscreants snatched Jakir Hossain alias Dipu, an accused in a case of women and children repression prevention act, after he was arrested by the police led by sub inspector Solaiman Akkas at around 7:45 pm on Wednesday. ‘Miscreants snatched the accused attacking the police at Narangali’, it added. Talking to The New Nation, Shikder Akkas Ali told that the police arrested Hazrat Ali, president, Narangali Bazar Committee in connection with the snatching incident. But the police could not be able to round up the accused who was snatched from their custody.
Police raids were going on in search of the accused, the OC added.
Mango saplings distributed in C’nawabganj

Mango saplings were distributed among 250 ultra poor families of Narayanpur union in Chapainawabganj sadsar upazila on Thursday. Non-government organization Agriculture Sustainable and Socio-Economic Development Organization (ASSEDO) distributed the saplings free of cost with the association of Chapainawabganj Regional Horticulture Research Station (RHRS) under Nadi-O-Jiban-2 Project financed by two donors Concern Worldwide and Iris Aid, ASSEDO sources said.A function was organized on the occasion at the conference room of the UP Auditorium. It was attended by chairman of the UP Advocate Alamgir Kabir, project manager Nurul Islam, supervisor Rakibul Islam and others.
Meeting on overall development held in Netrakona
NETRAKONA: A view-exchange meeting on ‘overall development of Netrakona district’ was held at the conference room of Deputy Commissioner’s office here yesterday. Deputy minister for youth and sports Arif Khan Joy, MP, and the prime minister’s private secretary-1 Sazzadul Hasan attended the meeting as chief guest and special guest. With deputy commissioner Dr. Torun Kanti Shikder in the chair, it was addressed, among others, by Waresat Hussain Belal (Bir-pratik), MP, administrator of zila parishad Motiur Rahman Khan and police super Joydeb Chowdhury. Chairman of Sadar upazila SM Kamrul Hasan Shahin, commander of district Muktizoddha Sangsad Nurul Amin, local executive engineer of roads and highways department Masudul Alam, local press club general secretary Mukhlesur Rahman Khan and editor of weekly Netra pathrika Humayun Kabir Selim also joined the meeting, reports BSS.
Sazzadul Hasan called for concerted efforts of government officials, public representatives, political leaders and civil society members for achieving sustainable development in all sectors for making the country as a developed and digital nation.
The present government, he said, under the dynamic leadership of prime minister Sheikh Hasina has already build up the country as a “low-middle income country” by implementing many development, socio-economic and poverty alleviation programs across the country.
GKDACC submits memo to realise 5-point demands
KHULNA: Greater Khulna Development Action Coordination Committee (GKDACC) here yesterday submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina through the Deputy Commissioner of Khulna to press home their five-point demands.
GKDACC hopes that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will fulfill their demands during her visit to Khulna on September 6.
The demands include supply of natural gas to Khulna through pipeline, formation of the Sundarban Development Board, a master plan at least for 50 years for greater economic development of the south-western region of the country including Khulna after construction of Padma bridge, upgrading of Bhomra land port into international standard and establishment of a medical university and an IT park in Khulna.
The GKDACC leaders also urged the government to take all possible measures to save resources of the Sundarbans from grip of looters, poachers, robbers and a section of officials and employees serving the forest department.
They also praised the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for implementing Sheikh Abu Naser Hospital and International Stadium, Khanjahan Ali Bridge and modernisation of Mongla Port.
