Restaurant owner shot at in Jessore

Miscreants shot at a restaurant owner at Raipara of Chansra under Kotwali police station in Jessore on Friday night. In another incident, a man shoot several rounds of gun shots in the air on the same night, said Shikder Akkas Ali, Officer- In-Charge, Kotwali police station. Locals and police said Bachchu Sheikh, 28, owner of a restaurant at Jessore railway station area was wounded critically as miscreants fired several rounds of gun shots at him near his residence at Raipara of Chansra at around 9:45 pm on Friday. He was rushed to Jessore Medical College Hospital soon after the incident and then shifted to Dhaka as his condition was going to be deteriorated. The reason of the attack could not be ascertained soon after the incident. No case was lodged in this connection.
Workshop on marketing of foodgrains held
Some 89 per cent of the rice bran oil what we buy from the markets are not rice bran oil because we have no so many industries to produce such quantity of rice bran oil. Nasir Uddin Khan, Additional Director, Department of Agriculture, Jessore disclosed the information at a workshop held at Jagorani Chakra Foundation arranged by International Rice Research Institute(IRRI), Jessore Hub and Jagorani Chakra Foundation funded by United States Agency for International Development on Sunday. He was speaking as the chief guest at the workshop. Chaired by Timothy Russell, chief of party, Cereal System Initiative for South Asia in Bangladesh, the workshop on marketing of food grains was attended among others AKM Ferdous, coordinator, IRRI, Jessore Hub, Dr. Abdul Momin, researcher and Monwara Begum, farmer. It was informed in the workshop that some 23 percent under the project are women.
BU teachers demand separate pay scale

Barisal University teachers on Sunday abstained from taking classes and observed sit-in strike protesting degradation in proposed pay scale and demanding separate pay scale. The other demands of the public universities were – same salary and allowance for senior [selection grade] professors as senior secretaries and same pay scale for professors and secretaries; ensuring university teacher’s status in accordance with their expected pay scale in the state’s warrant of precedence, provision of cars and other allowances for them like the bureaucrats. The programme was held at permanent campus of BU from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm announcing solidarity with the movement of public university teachers association of Bangladesh.
Man electrocuted in Sirajganj
SIRAJGANJ: A young man died from electrocution in Kalidasganti village in Sadar upazila on Sunday afternoon. The deceased was identified as Monju, 30, son of Momin, a resident of Boikunthopur village in Raiganj upazila. He was a hand-loom worker. Locals said Monju came into contact with an electric wire while he was unplugging his mobile from the charger and died on the spot, reports UNB.
