Student commits ‘suicide’

A college student allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan in Amborkhana area of the city early Saturday. The deceased was identified as Hossain Mamun, a resident of Kanchonpur village in Chattak upazila and a student of the Bussines department of Sylhet International University. Police said Mamun allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan in a house in the area at night. On information, police recovered the body. Gousul Hossain, Officer-in-Charge of Airport Police Station, confirmed the incident. An unnatural death case was filed in this connection.
Sewing machines distributed in C’nawabganj

The Federation of the Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) distributed sewing machines and beautification boxes among 41 trained women in the district on Saturday afternoon. FBCCI gave the sewing machines and beautification boxes to help the women augment their income. A simple function was arranged on the occasion at the conference room of the Chapainawabganj Chamber of Commerce and Industry with its president M Abdul Wahed in the chair. Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Jahangeer Kobir was present at the function as the chief guest while district women affairs officer Momtaj Mohol attended it as special guest.
Tree fair begins at Muktagacha

A three-day long agriculture technology and fruit tree fair began on Muktagacha upazila parisad premises of the district on Saturday . Organised by the Department of Agriculture Extension, the fair was inaugurated by standing committee member on the Ministry of Information Salahuddin Ahamed Mukti as the chief guest. Upazila Nirbahi Officer M Jasim Uddin presided it. Salahuddin Ahmed said there is no alternative to massive tree plantation across the country to maintain ecological balance. He laid stress on planting more fruit-bearing, herbal and timber trees in the vacant spaces and adjoining places of homesteads. Later, the chief guest visited different stalls of the fair and talked to the owners and thanked them for their participation in the fair. A total of 19 stalls have been set up in the fair.
Two held, yaba seized

Rapid Action Battalion on Thursday night arrested two suspected drug traders along with 200 pieces of Yaba tablets raiding an area at Nabharan Rail Bazar in Jessore .The arrested are Alamgir Hossain and Oziar Rahman of Sharifpur village under Jhikargachha upazila in Jessore. The arrested are listed drug traders at the area, said the RAB.
BGB seizes spice in Jessore
Border Guard Bangladesh men on Friday noon seized a total of 6 tonnes of spice that was smuggled into Bangladesh from India, said Lt Col Abdur Rahim, commanding officer, 23 Border Guard Battalion. The BGB official told that the frontier forces seized the spice raiding a truck at Jamtala on the Jessore- Benapole Road on Friday noon.
