Two Indians held up in Jessore

Border Guard Bangladesh men on Tuesday rounded up two Indian nationals along with Rs 1 lakh 59 thousand from Baro Anchra frontier along Benapole frontier, said Suberdar Ayub Ali Sarker, camp in-charge, Benapole, Border Guard Bangladesh. The arrested are Jainal of Narkeldanga village and Raju Mandol of Rasulpur village in Nadia district. The BGB personnel picked up the two and seized the said amount of India rupee money from their possessions as they entered into Bangladesh territory, the BGB said. The arrested were handed over to Benapole port station police after filing a case by the frontier force.
Plantation campaign starts in Barisal

The fortnight long Barisal divisional tree plantation campaign and fair starts at Bangabandhu Udyan of the city on Tuesday noon calling for more activities on social forestation. The programme was organised with the slogan ‘Let all of us plant trees on hills, at plain lands or in coastal belt : Days changing in Bangladesh making the country with fruits and trees’. The programme was aimed to raise awareness about tree plantation and social forestation among the mass people in the region. Social forestation, agriculture extension department and district administration jointly organised the campaign and fair inaugurated by Jebunnessa Afroj, AL lawmaker, chief guest of the programme. A rally from Ashwini Kumar Hall and discussion meeting at Barisal Model School , adjacent of fair ground, also arranged on this occasion before inaugurating the fair.
Housewife commits suicide in Sylhet

A housewife allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself at Nunchhora village in Kanaighat upazila on Wednesday. The deceased was identified as Hajira Begum, 25, wife of Jahir Uddin, a resident of the village.Locals said Hajira killed herself by hanging from a beam in the ceiling of the house in the morning.On information, police recovered the body around 2pm and sent it to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital for autopsy. Man crushed under train in Sylhet
A man died being crushed under a train near the Dakkhin Surma upazila headquarter in Parairchak area in Sylhet Tuesday Night. The victim could not be identified immediately. The police, quoting local people, said the man, aged around 40, was crushed under a an intercity train, Sylhet Railway police officer-in-charge Alamgir Hossain said the man might have committed suicide. The body was sent to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital morgue for post-mortem examinations, he added.
JMB leader held in Rajshahi
RAJSHAHI: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested a suspected leader of banned Islamist militant outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) from Bagmara upazila of the city on Thursday morning. The arrestee was identified as Lutfar Rahman. Rab-5 officials said on a tip-off, a team of the elite force conducted a drive in the area and arrested Lutfar at about 11:00 am. Lutfar was wanted in 12 cases, they added. Details of the arrestee will be revealed at a press conference later, reports UNB.
2 drug peddlers held with 3.3 kg heroin in Rajshahi
RAJSHAHI: A team of the Narcotic Control Department in a drive arrested two alleged drug peddlers along with 3.2 kg heroin worth TK 3 crore from Sarangpur Bheripara village of Godagari upazila early Thursday. The arrestees were identified as Karim Garu, 43, son of Syed Ali, and Tajumul Islam, son of Nur Mohammad, both residents of the village. Being tipped off, the team of the Narcotics Control Department with the assistance of police conducted the drive at the village around 4:30am and arrested them along with the heroin. Inspector (Sadar circle) of the Narcotics Control Department filed a case with Godagari Police Station in this connection, reports UNB.
