Villagers’ clash leaves 20 injured in C’nawabganj

Atleast 20 persons were injured two of them seriously in a clash between two groups of people at Islampur union under Chapainawabganj Sadar upazila on Monday morning. According to the police and local sources, the clash ensued following a conflict that had been going on between two groups of people of the area regarding the performing of the prayer of Eid-ul-Fitr on the same date of Saudi Arabia. Suddenly the conflicting groups were locked in a fierce clash with sticks and other sharp weapons today at around 9 am. 17 injured persons were admitted to the Chapainawabganj Sadar Hospital. Of them seriously injured Habibur Rahman and Rafiqul Islam were sent to the Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, hospital sources said.
Tree Fair begins in Narsingdi

A seven-day Tree Fair began at Narsingdi Sadar Upazila Parishad premises here on Friday. Narsingdi District Administration, Department of Agriculture Extension and Department of Forest jointly organised the fair. Deputy Commissioner of Narsingdi Abu Hena Morshed Zaman in a simple function inaugurated the fair as chief guest while Deputy Director Department of Agriculture Extension Narsingdi Lotafat Hossain presided over it.Chairman Narsingdi Sadar upazila Parishad Monzur Elahi and Additional District Magistrate (ADM) were present in the function as special guests. Among others Divisional Forest Officer,Social Forest Division,Dhaka hassain Mohammad Nashad, Nirbahi Officer Sadar upazila Mokabar Hossain, Krishi officer SadarUpazila Abdul Hai and spoke on the occasion. The chief guest Morshed Zaman said plantation of trees is a must for the maintaining environmental blance. He called upon the yoyts to put their best towards tree plantation. He latter visited the stalls at the fair . A total of 25 stalls with saplings of various fruit, medicinal and timber trees are taking part in the fair.
Training on micronutrient analysis on crops held

Harvest Plus Bangladesh arranged a two- day training on ”calibration of XRF machine and micronutrient analysis in crops”. The training was held at HarvestPlus Laboratory office, Bogra. This training will cover the basic principle and application of XRF as a screening method for the analysis of Zinc and Iron in whole grain of rice and wheat.
HarvestPlus has set up the XRF machine in the 1st floor of BCL cold storage office Nawdapara, Bogra. The machine will initially work for the analysis of zinc and iron in rice. The associate professor Dr. James Stangoulis and post Doc fellow Dr. Georgia Guild from the Flinder University of Australia imparted the training to the HarvestPlus staff. HarvestPlus Country Manager Dr. Khairul Bashar inaugurated the training session.
