BGB detains 13 at Benapole

Border Guard Bangladesh men on Wednesday night arrested 13 Bangladeshis including three women as they tried to go to India illegally, said the police. Ashraf Hossain, assistant sub inspector, Benapole port police station told that BGB personnel nabbed the thirteen while they were trying cross Benapole frontier illegally at around 8pm on Wednesday. The arrested were handed over to Benapole port police station after filing a case, police said.
Int’l Day against Smuggling observed in Chuadanga
CHUADANGA: The International day against smuggling and abuse of drug was observed here in a befitting manner yesterday. Chuadanga district administration and district drug control department jointly organized a programme including bringing out procession and holding discussion meeting in this connection. The procession began from the office premises of Deputy Commissioner participated by the officials and employees of the district administration, school teachers, traders, boy scouts and NGO activists carrying banners. The participants in the procession paraded through the main roads of the town. Later, a discussion meeting was held at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner. Deputy Commissioner (general) Anjuman Ara presided. Additional District Magistrate Abdur Razzak, Chuadanga and local Drug Inspector Nirmal Kumar spoke on the occasion, reports BSS.
Shops vandalised over petty matter

A group of young men in an attack vandalised several shops in Sylhet’s Housing Estate on Thursday night over a trifling matter. Police said an altercation between two men led to a scuffle on Thursday evening after a car on the Housing Estate street hit some rickshaws, causing those to tilt to one side. Locals later intervened and stopped the fight. But hours later, a band of young men arrived in the area on some 50 motorcycles, and attacked shops with machetes and rods while chanting the Joy Bangla slogan. The 20-minute attack panicked locals and the attackers left after police arrived on the scene. Councillor Rezaul Hasan Kayes Lodi, local Awami League leader Matiur Rahman Mati and several other influential men also came. Kayes Ahmed, owner of Sonia Restaurant which came under attack, said attackers vandalised his shop and took away the cash box that had Tk8,000 in it. Road accident kills one in Sylhet
A Driver was killed in a road accident on Naya Sarak road under Sylhet City of the district on Saturday Morning. The victim was identified as Alal Miah, 35, son of Armoj Ali of Sunar para village under the Balagong upazila. Md Suhel Ahmed, Officer-in-Charge of Katwaly Model Police Station, said the accident occurred when a Chowhatta-bound Truck ran over CNG in the area at about 6.30am, leaving him dead on the spot. Being informed, police recovered the body and sent it to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital. Police also seized the vehicle but its driver and helper managed to escape.
