Minor girl drowns in Manikganj

Manikganj Correspondent

A minor girl drowned in a pond at Shakrail village in Shibaloya upazila on Tuesday noon. The deceased was identified as Bashona Saha, 3, daughter of Sawpan Saha, a resident of Shakrail village. Locals said Bashona slipped into the water and drowned while playing on the bank of a pond near her house around 8.00am. Later, her family members found the floating body in the pond at noon and recovered it.

Int’l public service day observed in Netrakona

International public service day was observed in Netrakona on Tuesday.Netrakona District Administration designed an elaborate program to mark the day. Following the program, a colorful rally was brought out in the district town. A large number of government officials, NGO workers, students, teachers and journalists participated in the rally. A discussion meeting was held the conference room of Netrakona DC office. Presided over by acting DC Netrakona Yousuf Ali, the meeting was addressed, among others, by Additional District Magistrate Netrakona Anwar Hussain Akand, Additional Deputy Commissioner (general) Netrakona Abdur Rahim, Deputy Director of Agriculture Extension Department Netrakona Bilash Chandra Paul, secretary of Netrakona Zial Pariashad Rafiqul Islam and war -wounded freedom fighter Osman Gani Talukder.

Drug pharmacy owner jailed in Jhenidah

A pharmacy owner has been sentenced one and half year imprisonment due to selling pathidin injection and government medicine illegally on Tuesday afternoon. The victim is Md. Hasanuzzaman owner of Hasan pharmacy on Kaliganj-Kotchandpur road under Kaliganj upazila town. On secret information Kaligonj upazila UNO and Nirbahi magistrate Manowar Hossain Mollah launched a drive at the pharmacy and recovered banned pathedin drug injection and government medicine from the pharmacy.

Liquor, beer worth Tk4.32 lakh seized

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in a drive seized 287 bottles of ‘Officer’s Choice’ wine and eight bottles of Haywards beer from Chandranagar area in Companyganj upazila on Friday. Tipped off, a team of BGB-5 led by Habildar Harun-or-Rashid conducted a drive in the area around 8:30 am and seized the liquor and beer worth Tk4.32 lakh. The seized liquor was deposited to the local office of the Narcotics Control Department.
Four traders fined in Sylhet
A mobile court fined four traders in Sylhet city for not hanging price list in front of shops and hiking prices on Sunday. Magistrate Ziaul Islam Choudhury conducted the mobile court while Sylhet district Marketing Officer Morshed Kader assisted him. Razan Mia, a beef trader of Lalabazar was fined Tk 2,000, while fruits traders at Madina Market, Nanu Mia, Sahab Uddin and Monsur Ali were fined Tk 1,000, 3,000 and 5,000 respectively, a source said.
The Sylhet City Corporation earlier had asked traders to hang price list in front of shops and had also announced that it would conduct mobile courts in the city’s retail markets throughout the Holy month of Ramadan.
