Illegal structures on Kuakata beach demolished

Patuakhali district administration on Wednesday demolished around 100 illegal structures on Kuakata sea beach in Kalapara Upazila of the district. The structures were built recently by a section of local influential people near the flood control embankment. Led by Assistant Commissioner (Land) Deepak Kumar Roy, also an executive magistrate, the drive started around 10:00am and continued until 4:00pm. In September last year, the district administration dismantled over 100 illegal structures in the same area which were gradually built again. One June 3, 2011, the High Court directed authorities concerned to remove all structures from the beach area.
2 jailed for producing adulterated medicine, cosmetic in K’ganj

Rapid Action Battalian (RAB) mobile court on Wednesday night sentenced the owner of a fake medicine factory and his microbus driver to two years jail terms and fined of Tk. 3 lakh in default suffer six months more in jail on the charge of producing and marketing medicine and spurious cosmetic products. Acting in a tip off, a RAB- 14 team along with Senior Magistrate Abu Taher Sayeed and Deputy Direction of RAB Major Raidul Islam conducted a raid at Batrish Amlitala in the town from 11.30 p.m to 1.45 a.m. RAB- 14 members arrested factor owner Shahidul Islam (48), S/O late Shamsuddin Miah, Maa Chemical Company Ltd. and his microbus driver Shahidur Rahman (35) from the spot. The team also seized huge quantities of fake medicine and cosmetics from the factory.
Labourer killed in Barisal Olympic Cement Factory

One labourer was killed, three severely injured at Olympic Cement Factory in Rupatali area of Barisal city on Wednesday afternoon. The deceased was identified as Md. Shakil, 22, of Ukil Bari, Rupatali area in the city. The injured other three labourers Kabir, Masud and Shafik were under treatment in critical condition at Barisal Sher E Bangla Medical College Hospital. Witnesses said when the labours working Wednesday on a 20-feet high tower to mix raw materials for producing cement, the Chinese technicians working there without any alarming signal started the mixture machine. Then the aforesaid four labours severely injured after flown off form the high platform at about 2:00 pm.
Mozibur elected Khadapara UP chairman

 The by- election of Khadapara Union Parishad was held on Monday. In the election, out of 4 chairman candidates AL- supported Sardar Mojibur Rahman bagged 6 thousand 736 votes and unofficially elected chairman. On the other hand, his nearest candidate Ershad Ali bagged one thousand 601 votes. The other two Abdul Alim Zinnah and Mizanur Rahman bagged on thousand 357 and 992 votes respectively. The total votes of the union are 19 thousand 402. The polling was held at 9 polling centers.
