Fire guts 150 shops in Barguna
BARGUNA: At least 15 persons were injured and 150 shops gutted in a fire at Barguna Super Market on Monday night. The fire broke out at 10pm from an electric short circuit at a shop of the market which engulfed the other shops quickly. “At least 150 shops of the market including a Chinese restaurant, grocery stores, mobile phone shops, readymade garment stores and stationery shops have been burnt by the fire,” Barguna Poura Mayor Mohammad Shahadat Hossain told BSS. Three fire service units of Barguna town doused the fire after frantic efforts of more than three hours with the help of shop owners and locals. Fifteen persons, including a fire service man, were injured during the fire. Monoranjan Sarker, deputy director of Barguna Fire Service Station, told reporters that he suspected that the fire might be originated from an electric short circuit. Deputy commissioner of Barguna district Mir Jahurul Islam said financial help would be provided to the affected businessmen after assessment of damage in the fire, reports BSS.
8 injured in Barisal AL factional clash

At least eight activists were injured in clashes between rival factions of ruling Awami League over Shayestabad union unit conference of the party at Barisal city skirt on Sunday noon. Police charging baton controlled the situation. Witnesses said conference to form new committee of the Shayestabad union AL started under a tensed situation on Sunday morning at local school field presided over by Sadar upazila AL president Manirul Islam Chhobi. Leaders of rival groups led by Rubel Hossain Talukdar alias Mamun backed by district AL president and lawmaker of Barisal-1 Abul Hasanat Abdullah and his rival Sultan Ahmed Master backed by city AL leader and lawmaker Jebunnesa Afroz, were contesting for presidency of the union AL unit. Sadek Abdullah, Jubo league leader and son of Abul Hasanat Abdullah was present there and suddenly followers, supporters of both groups engaged in scuffle and chasing counter chasing with lethal weapons.
Founding anniv of TV channel 24 celebrated

The 4th founding anniversary of TV channel 24 was celebrated in Bagerhat district town in a befitting manner on Sunday. On the occasion a colourful rally was led by Alhaj Adv. Mir Shawkat Ali Badsha, MP of Bagerhat from the local Ash Bangladesh NGO office premises paraded the main thoroughfares of the district town at 11 am. It was ended at the same place. After the end of the rally a lively discussion meeting was held in the local Ash Banglades auditorium with Prof. ABM. Mosharraf Husain, Bagerhat Correspondent of the daily New Nation and former president of Bagerhat Press Club in the chair. Alhaj Adv. Mir Shawkat Badsha MP while he was speaking on the occasion as the chief guest requested the TV channel and its local correspondent to ventilate the objective, accurate, unbiased, descent and impartial news items for the betterment of the country as well as for the betterment of her people.
3 hurt in Sylhet BCL clash

At least three students were injured in a Bangladesh Chhatra League’s (BCL) factional clash in the city on Thursday night. The clash took place between two factions of local BCL at a musical function on Sylhet Metropolitan University campus. The injured were identified as Sayem Mia, 23, Tarek Alam, 21 and Sohag, 22. All are the students of the university and also activists of BCL. Sources concerned said that the clash took place around 9:00pm between two factions of local BCL over entering into a concert of ‘Fleyam’, a musical club of the university. Later, the injured were taken to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital for treatment.
2 human traffickers held in Patuakhali
PATUAKHALI: Police arrested two alleged human traffickers from Nayakata village in Kalapara upazila on Monday. The arrestees were identified as Paran Sharif and Habib, residents of the same village. Police said on secret information, they conducted a drive in the area and arrested the duo in the afternoon. They were arrested in a case filed under the Prevention and Suppression of Human Trafficking Act, reports UNB.
Farmer killed by lightning strike in Moulvibazar
MOULVIBAZAR : A farmer was killed by a lightning strike at Barobari village in Sadar upazila on Monday afternoon. The deceased was identified as Rashid Miah,48, a resident of Chowdhury Bazar village in Rajnagar upazila. Witnesses said a streak of thunderbolt struck Rashid while he was working in a paddy field at Barobari village at about 5:00 pm, leaving him dead on the spot. Abu Sufian, chairman of the Ekatuna union parishad, confirmed the incident, reports UNB.
